Triumph Bonneville 400 to Debut on October 6 What to Expect From the New Retro Motorcycle

Until the official announcement, the Bonneville 400 remains an upcoming model with several expected specifications based on test motorcycles and industry reports.

Triumph Motorcycles is preparing to unveil the much anticipated Bonneville 400 on October 6, 2026, as part of a four motorcycle reveal. The British manufacturer has released a teaser showing four upcoming motorcycles, with the Bonneville 400 expected to be the retro roadster among them. The other three motorcycles are expected to include models from Triumph’s Street Triple and Tiger families, although their exact identities and specifications are yet to be officially confirmed.

The Bonneville 400 has generated considerable interest in India because it is expected to bring Triumph’s traditional Bonneville design language to the company’s smaller capacity motorcycle range. Unlike the existing Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Thruxton 400 and Tracker 400, the upcoming motorcycle is expected to focus more strongly on classic styling and relaxed road riding.

Spy images and recent reports have provided an indication of what the production motorcycle could look like. The test motorcycle appears to draw design inspiration from the larger Bonneville T100 and Bonneville T120. The expected design includes a teardrop shaped fuel tank, round headlamp, flat bench style seat, full length mudguards and a peashooter style exhaust.

The motorcycle is also expected to feature wire spoke wheels, adding to its traditional appearance. Chrome and brushed metal elements visible on test motorcycles further strengthen the classic styling theme. However, Triumph has not yet confirmed the complete production specification, so these details should be treated as expected features until the official unveiling.

One of the most important differences between the Bonneville 400 and other motorcycles in Triumph’s 400 range is expected to be its chassis and suspension setup. Reports indicate that the motorcycle will use conventional telescopic front forks with rubber gaiters instead of the upside down front fork setup used by several existing Triumph 400 models.

At the rear, the Bonneville 400 is expected to feature twin shock absorbers. The combination of conventional forks and twin rear shocks is consistent with the motorcycle’s traditional roadster design and is expected to give it a more classic visual character.

The test motorcycles also appear to feature a different chassis and swingarm compared with the existing Triumph 400 models. This could allow Triumph to create a riding position and handling characteristics more suited to the Bonneville’s intended relaxed roadster character. The exact chassis specifications and suspension tuning will be confirmed when the motorcycle is officially revealed.

The engine is another important area of interest. Reports indicate that the India specification Bonneville 400 could use a 349cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine. The engine is expected to be related to the powertrain used in Triumph’s India focused 350cc strategy.

For comparison, the Speed T4 produces 29 horsepower and 31 Nm of torque from its 349cc engine. However, Triumph has not confirmed whether the Bonneville 400 will receive exactly the same engine specification or tuning. The company could adjust the power delivery to suit the motorcycle’s more relaxed character.

A different engine tune would allow Triumph to prioritise accessible low and mid range performance rather than outright acceleration. This approach would also fit the traditional Bonneville philosophy, where comfortable everyday riding and strong road presence are important parts of the overall package.

The transmission is also expected to be a six speed gearbox, although the final specifications will need to be confirmed by Triumph. The motorcycle is likely to use the same basic technological foundation as other motorcycles developed under the Bajaj Triumph partnership, while adopting a substantially different design and chassis setup.

The Bonneville 400 is expected to occupy an important position in Triumph’s Indian motorcycle portfolio. The company already sells several motorcycles based on its 400 platform, including the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Thruxton 400 and Tracker 400. The Bonneville 400 would expand the range further by entering the traditional modern retro roadster category.

In India, the new motorcycle is expected to compete with established models such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Royal Enfield Bullet 350 and Honda CB350. These motorcycles have a strong presence in the retro motorcycle segment and are popular among buyers looking for classic styling combined with modern mechanical technology.

Triumph’s biggest advantage could be its combination of British brand heritage, modern engineering and the Bonneville name. The company has already established the Triumph 400 platform in India, and the Bonneville 400 could attract customers who prefer a more traditional motorcycle design.

Pricing will be another major factor. The final price has not been announced, and Triumph is yet to confirm the motorcycle’s Indian launch date. Recent reports suggest that an India launch could take place around the festive season or towards the end of 2026, but this remains unconfirmed.

The use of a 349cc engine in India could also help Triumph position the motorcycle competitively. The company and Bajaj Auto have already used smaller capacity engines for India specific products, allowing Triumph to compete more directly in the country’s highly competitive mid capacity motorcycle market.

The October 6 reveal is therefore expected to provide important information about the motorcycle’s final design, engine output, equipment, dimensions and pricing strategy. Until then, details circulating from test motorcycles and industry reports should be considered preliminary.

The Bonneville 400 is particularly significant because it could become the most traditionally styled motorcycle in Triumph’s current India focused 400 range. While the Speed 400 follows a modern roadster design and the Scrambler 400 X focuses on adventure inspired styling, the Bonneville 400 is expected to stay closer to the classic Bonneville formula.

The design is expected to include a wide handlebar, circular mirrors, traditional mudguards and a long exhaust. A single piece bench seat could provide a simple and classic silhouette. These elements are likely to distinguish the motorcycle from the more contemporary styling of other Triumph 400 models.

The expected wire spoke wheels and twin shock absorbers could further strengthen its retro appeal. At the same time, the motorcycle is expected to retain modern engineering and equipment appropriate for current Indian riders.

Triumph has not yet confirmed every feature, so buyers should wait for the official unveiling before making decisions based on specifications reported from test motorcycles. The company’s October 6 event is expected to provide the first complete picture of the Bonneville 400 and the other three motorcycles being revealed.

For the Indian motorcycle market, the arrival of the Bonneville 400 could increase competition in the 350cc modern retro segment. Royal Enfield currently has a strong position in this category, while Honda, Jawa and other manufacturers also compete for customers.

If Triumph manages to combine its traditional styling with competitive pricing and accessible performance, the Bonneville 400 could become an important addition to the company’s Indian portfolio. Its final positioning, however, will depend on the official specifications and price announced by Triumph.

The October 6 reveal will therefore be closely watched by motorcycle enthusiasts and potential buyers. The event should clarify whether the reported 349cc engine, traditional suspension setup and Bonneville inspired styling make it to the production motorcycle.

Until the official announcement, the Bonneville 400 remains an upcoming model with several expected specifications based on test motorcycles and industry reports. Triumph’s unveiling will provide the final confirmation of its design, engine, equipment, pricing and launch plans.

At the same time, the motorcycle is expected to retain modern engineering and equipment appropriate for current Indian riders.
