Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has commenced production of the updated 2026 Skoda Slavia at its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. The production start comes ahead of the car's expected festive season launch in India. The updated sedan brings changes to its exterior design, transmission options, technology and comfort features while continuing with the existing TSI engine family.
Skoda officially unveiled the updated Slavia in India on August 18, 2026. The company said the new model would receive several segment focused updates, including a new eight speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0 litre TSI engine. Pre bookings for the updated Slavia have also been opened.
The production version of the facelifted Slavia is being manufactured at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India's Chakan plant near Pune. The start of production indicates that the company is preparing the updated sedan for its upcoming market introduction. Recent reports have stated that the model is expected to reach dealerships during the 2026 festive season.
One of the biggest changes to the new Slavia is its automatic transmission. The 1.0 litre TSI petrol engine is now paired with an eight speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Skoda describes this as a segment first combination. The 1.0 TSI engine will also continue to be available with a six speed manual transmission.
The 1.5 litre TSI engine continues with the seven speed DSG automatic transmission. Skoda has also added rear disc brakes to the 1.5 TSI variants. The company has retained the TSI powertrain range while introducing the new automatic transmission option for buyers looking for a more conventional automatic gearbox with the smaller engine.
The exterior design of the updated Slavia has also been revised. The sedan gets new LED headlamps and redesigned LED taillamps with sequential rear turn indicators. The front section receives a revised grille treatment with a chrome strip, while changes to the front and rear sections give the car a refreshed appearance.
New alloy wheel designs are also part of the facelift. Skoda is offering the updated Slavia in multiple variants, including Classic, Classic Plus, Signature, Sportline and Prestige. The Monte Carlo trim is also being introduced with the updated model from the start of sales.
The interior and technology package have received several updates as well. One of the notable additions is a rear seat massage function, which Skoda describes as a segment first. The feature is aimed at improving rear passenger comfort, particularly during longer journeys.
The new Slavia also gets a 360 degree Area View camera system. This provides a broader view around the vehicle and is designed to assist drivers during parking and low speed manoeuvres. The sedan also features Park Pilot with front parking sensors.
The digital instrument cluster has been upgraded to a 10.25 inch Digital Cockpit. Depending on the variant, buyers can also get features such as rain sensing wipers, an electric sunroof, automatic headlamps, an auto dimming inside rear view mirror and all LED lighting.
The infotainment system has also received a technology upgrade. The new Slavia gets a 10.1 inch infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. A major addition is an AI Companion powered by Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent.
According to Skoda, the AI based system brings context aware voice assistance to the vehicle. It can provide information and support functions such as music, calls and climate control through voice interaction. The company also says the system has been developed to recognise Indian English accents.
Safety continues to be an important part of the Slavia package. Skoda says the updated model carries forward its five star Global NCAP safety credentials for adult and child occupant protection. Six airbags are offered as standard across the range, along with a wider set of active and passive safety features. Higher variants receive additional safety and driver assistance equipment.
The new Slavia is based on the locally developed MQB A0 IN platform, which was engineered for the Indian market. Skoda says nearly 80,000 units of the Slavia have been sold in India to date. The company has positioned the updated sedan as an important model in its Indian passenger vehicle portfolio.
The facelifted model will also receive new colour options. Skoda has listed shades including Candy White, Carbon Steel, Brilliant Silver, Lava Blue, Deep Black, Cherry Red, Shimla Green and Steel Grey. Arctic Silver and Cappuccino Beige are among the new colours introduced for the updated model.
Skoda has also announced an ownership package for the new Slavia. The company's Super Care package includes a standard four year or 100,000 kilometre warranty, four years of roadside assistance and four labour free services for up to two years or 30,000 kilometres. Customers can extend the warranty by another two years, taking total coverage to six years.
The company has not yet published all final performance, dimensions and technical specifications for the production model. Skoda has stated that final data will be released after homologation. Therefore, some technical details should be considered provisional until the official final specifications are announced.
The updated Slavia is expected to enter the market during India's festive buying period. The production commencement at Chakan suggests that preparations for the market launch are now underway. Pricing and variant specific equipment details will be important factors when the company announces the final launch information.
