BMW has officially revealed the long wheelbase versions of the X5 and the all electric iX5, expanding its premium sport utility vehicle lineup with models designed specifically for customers in the Chinese market. The latest additions are aimed at buyers who prioritize rear seat comfort and spacious interiors without compromising the performance and luxury associated with the BMW brand.

The standout feature of the new models is a 130 mm increase in wheelbase, which primarily benefits rear-seat passengers by providing substantially more legroom. Long wheelbase vehicles continue to be highly popular in China, where many premium SUV owners frequently travel with chauffeurs or prefer greater rear cabin comfort for family use.

Despite the increase in dimensions, BMW has retained the familiar exterior styling of the X5. The long wheelbase models preserve the brand's signature kidney grille, sculpted body lines, LED lighting elements and athletic proportions, ensuring the vehicles maintain their premium appearance while offering improved practicality.

Inside the cabin, the additional wheelbase allows BMW to redesign the rear seating area with greater emphasis on passenger comfort. Rear occupants benefit from increased legroom, improved seating comfort and a more spacious environment for long-distance travel. Premium materials, high-quality finishes and advanced interior technology continue to define the luxury experience.

The new X5 Long Wheelbase is expected to offer multiple powertrain options depending on market availability, including efficient petrol engines and electrified variants. Meanwhile, the all electric iX5 represents BMW's continued investment in electric mobility, combining zero-emission driving with the practicality and comfort expected from a premium SUV.

Both models are equipped with BMW's latest infotainment system, featuring a large curved digital display that integrates the digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen. The vehicles also include advanced connectivity features, voice control, smartphone integration and over-the-air software updates to enhance the ownership experience.

BMW has also equipped the new SUVs with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety technologies. Depending on the variant, features may include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, collision warning systems, parking assistance and multiple active safety functions designed to improve driver confidence and passenger protection.

The introduction of the long wheelbase X5 and iX5 reflects BMW's strategy of developing region-specific models that address the preferences of local customers. China remains one of the company's largest global markets, and demand for extended wheelbase luxury vehicles continues to grow across premium segments.

Although these long wheelbase versions have been introduced primarily for China, BMW has not announced plans to offer the same models in other international markets. Market availability outside China will depend on future product planning and regional demand.

The unveiling also highlights BMW's continued focus on expanding both its conventional luxury SUV portfolio and its growing electric vehicle lineup. By offering customers more spacious interiors alongside advanced technology and electrified powertrains, the company aims to strengthen its position in the premium automotive market.

With enhanced rear-seat comfort, modern digital features and BMW's established engineering standards, the new X5 Long Wheelbase and all electric iX5 are expected to appeal to buyers seeking a luxurious and spacious premium SUV experience.
