Jeep Adds Automatic Transmission to Entry-Level Compass

Jeep India has introduced the Compass Sport 9AT, bringing a nine-speed automatic transmission to the entry-level variant of its Compass SUV. The new model is priced at Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom, and is positioned as the most affordable automatic version of the Jeep Compass currently available in India.

The launch expands the Compass range by offering customers an automatic transmission option without requiring them to move to a higher variant. According to the company, deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second week of November 2026 through Jeep dealerships and Stellantis Brand Houses across India.

The new variant retains the familiar diesel engine and front-wheel-drive configuration. Its key change is the addition of the nine-speed automatic gearbox, which is intended to make everyday driving more convenient for customers who prefer an automatic SUV.

Engine and Transmission Details

The Jeep Compass Sport 9AT is powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged diesel engine. The four-cylinder unit produces 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Power is delivered to the front wheels, making the new variant a front-wheel-drive SUV. The combination of the diesel engine and automatic gearbox gives buyers an alternative to the manual transmission previously offered with the entry-level Sport variant.

The nine-speed gearbox is designed to provide smooth gear changes across different driving conditions. An automatic transmission can be particularly convenient in stop-and-go urban traffic, although actual fuel efficiency and driving performance depend on road conditions, driving style and vehicle use.

Jeep has not announced a separate engine upgrade for this variant. The main addition is the automatic transmission, along with selected safety and convenience features.

Features and Safety Equipment

The Compass Sport 9AT comes with a range of safety, comfort and connectivity equipment. Standard features include six airbags, cruise control and an Auto Hold function.

The SUV also features a 21.3 cm Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. These functions allow compatible smartphones to connect with the infotainment system without a wired connection.

Other equipment includes steering-mounted controls and electrically adjustable outside rear-view mirrors. The variant retains Jeep’s Frequency Selective Damping suspension system, which is designed to help maintain ride comfort over varying road surfaces.

It also comes with Dynamic Steering Torque technology, which is intended to support steering response and handling. These systems form part of the Compass driving package and are carried over to the new automatic variant.

Buyers should compare the equipment list with higher Compass trims before making a purchase, as feature availability can vary across the model range.

Optional Accessory Pack

Jeep is offering an optional accessory package for the Compass Sport 9AT at an additional cost of Rs 29,900. The package is intended for customers who want to add styling and convenience items to the SUV.

The accessories include ambient cabin lighting, a dashcam with predictive safety features, a Swoosh exterior decal, all-weather floor mats and mud flaps.

The package is optional and is not included in the vehicle’s Rs 21.99 lakh ex-showroom price. Customers should confirm the availability and installation details with their authorised Jeep dealership.

The additional accessories provide buyers with the option to personalise the vehicle without choosing a higher trim solely for those items.

Price and Delivery Timeline

The Jeep Compass Sport 9AT is priced at Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The announced price excludes additional costs such as registration charges, insurance and other applicable on-road expenses, which vary by location.

Customer deliveries are scheduled to commence in the second week of November 2026. Buyers interested in the new variant can contact authorised Jeep dealerships for booking information, delivery estimates and the final on-road price in their city.

The wider Compass range continues to offer manual and automatic transmission options. Depending on the variant, customers can also choose between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.

By introducing the automatic gearbox at Sport level, Jeep is making the transmission option available to customers who may not want to pay for a higher variant. Whether it offers the right value will depend on buyers’ preferences for features, transmission type, performance and total ownership costs.

What the New Variant Means for Buyers

The Compass Sport 9AT gives buyers another option in the premium diesel SUV segment. Customers who prioritise an automatic gearbox can now consider the entry-level Compass without having to select a more expensive trim solely to obtain an automatic transmission.

The 2.0-litre diesel engine, 170 hp output and 350 Nm of torque remain central to the vehicle’s performance offering. The addition of six airbags, cruise control, Auto Hold and smartphone connectivity also provides a useful set of safety and convenience features.

However, prospective buyers should assess the ex-showroom price alongside the final on-road cost, maintenance expenses and equipment available in competing SUVs. A test drive can also help them evaluate the gearbox, ride comfort and handling under their usual driving conditions.

With deliveries planned for November 2026, the Jeep Compass Sport 9AT broadens the brand’s automatic SUV offering in India. The launch gives customers greater flexibility when choosing a Compass variant, while retaining the existing diesel powertrain and front-wheel-drive layout.

However, prospective buyers should assess the ex-showroom price alongside the final on-road cost, maintenance expenses and equipment available in competing SUVs.
