Tata Motors has launched the new Tata Aeris compact sedan in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh ex showroom. The new sedan replaces the outgoing Tigor in Tata Motors' passenger vehicle range and brings a substantially revised exterior design, updated cabin and additional equipment.
The Tata Aeris is available in five variants named Smart, Pure, Pure Plus, Creative and Accomplished. Customers can choose between petrol and CNG powertrains, while both five speed manual and automated manual transmission options are available on eligible variants. The introductory pricing extends up to Rs 9.74 lakh ex showroom for the top Accomplished CNG AMT version, according to the published variant price list.
Bookings for the new sedan have opened following the launch. Tata Motors has announced that customer deliveries will begin from October 11, 2026. The Aeris is being positioned as a compact sedan for private buyers, while the company is continuing to cater to fleet customers through its separate commercial passenger vehicle offerings.
Tata Aeris Price and Variants
The entry level Smart petrol manual variant is priced at Rs 5.29 lakh. The Smart CNG manual version is priced at Rs 6.29 lakh.
The Pure variant is available with petrol manual transmission at Rs 6.14 lakh and petrol AMT at Rs 6.69 lakh. The CNG manual version is priced at Rs 7.14 lakh, while the CNG AMT costs Rs 7.69 lakh.
The Pure Plus petrol manual variant costs Rs 6.74 lakh, while its AMT version is priced at Rs 7.29 lakh. The CNG manual and AMT versions are priced at Rs 7.74 lakh and Rs 8.29 lakh respectively.
The Creative petrol manual variant is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh and the petrol AMT at Rs 8.04 lakh. The CNG manual version costs Rs 8.49 lakh, while the CNG AMT is priced at Rs 9.04 lakh.
At the top of the range, the Accomplished petrol manual version costs Rs 8.19 lakh and the petrol AMT is priced at Rs 8.74 lakh. The Accomplished CNG manual version costs Rs 9.19 lakh, while the CNG AMT is priced at Rs 9.74 lakh. All prices are introductory ex showroom prices.
Exterior Design
The Tata Aeris gets a significantly updated exterior compared with the Tigor. The front-end design takes inspiration from the Tata Tiago and features slimmer LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights. The front bumper has also been redesigned, while the grille receives a gloss black treatment.
The sedan gets LED fog lamps and revised lower bumper elements. Depending on the variant, the Aeris is available with 14 inch or 15 inch wheels. Higher variants receive 15 inch alloy wheels, while the lower variants and CNG versions use smaller wheel options.
The rear section also receives a revised design. The Aeris gets slimmer LED tail lamps and updated bumper styling. The overall sedan profile retains the compact notchback shape associated with the Tigor, while the revised front and rear sections give the new model a different visual identity.
Tata is offering the Aeris in six exterior colours. These include Nitro Crimson, Pure Grey, Dandeli Drizzle, Pristine White, Daytona Grey and Dune Glow.
Dimensions and Boot Space
The Tata Aeris measures 3,995mm in length, 1,684mm in width and 1,532mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,450mm and ground clearance of 170mm.
The petrol version has a 419 litre boot capacity. Tata's CNG setup uses a twin cylinder arrangement, allowing the company to retain useful luggage space compared with conventional single tank CNG layouts. Published specifications indicate that the CNG version also offers a practical boot arrangement for a compact sedan.
Interior and Features
The cabin of the Tata Aeris has been redesigned with several elements inspired by the Tiago. The dashboard features a digital instrument display and a large central infotainment screen. Higher variants receive a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The equipment list includes wireless smartphone charging, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control and rear air conditioning vents. The sedan also gets USB Type C charging ports and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity on applicable variants.
Another notable feature is the integrated dashcam function. The vehicle's surround view camera system can also be used for recording, adding an additional functionality to the camera hardware.
Higher variants receive a 360 degree camera with blind spot monitoring. The Aeris also gets features such as a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assistance and connected vehicle functions, depending on the variant.
Safety Features
Tata has equipped the Aeris with six airbags as standard across the range. The sedan also receives electronic stability related safety systems, ABS, hill hold assistance and ISOFIX child seat mounting points. Higher variants receive additional equipment including a 360 degree camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The CNG versions receive additional systems designed specifically for the compressed natural gas powertrain. These include leak detection and safety measures around the CNG cylinders. The twin cylinder arrangement is also designed to make more efficient use of the available space.
Engine and Transmission Options
The Tata Aeris continues with a 1.2 litre three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. In petrol specification, the engine produces around 86hp and 113Nm of torque. It is paired with either a five speed manual transmission or a five speed automated manual transmission.
The CNG version produces approximately 75hp and 96.5Nm of torque. The CNG powertrain is also available with both five speed manual and five speed AMT options. The powertrain technology is based on the mechanical package used by Tata's existing compact models.
The availability of both petrol and CNG powertrains gives buyers different options depending on their usage requirements. The AMT option is also intended to provide an alternative to the conventional manual transmission for customers looking for easier operation in city traffic.
Position in the Indian Market
The Tata Aeris enters the sub four metre compact sedan segment in India. It will compete with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
The starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh makes the Aeris's introductory entry price lower than the outgoing Tigor's previous starting price. However, the top Aeris variant is priced higher than the outgoing model's earlier maximum price.
Tata Motors is therefore offering the Aeris with a broad variant range covering entry level petrol buyers as well as customers looking for additional features, automatic transmission or CNG technology.
