BMW has positioned the iX4 as a more dynamic alternative to the iX3, while introducing the company’s latest electric powertrain, battery and digital technologies.

BMW has officially revealed the new iX4, a fully electric SUV coupe that expands the company’s Neue Klasse electric vehicle range. The new model combines the practicality and elevated driving position associated with an SUV with a sloping coupe style roofline. BMW has positioned the iX4 as a more dynamic alternative to the iX3, while introducing the company’s latest electric powertrain, battery and digital technologies.

The BMW iX4 is scheduled to make its global market debut in March 2027. At launch, buyers will be able to choose between the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive. BMW will introduce the higher performance iX4 M60 xDrive shortly afterwards. The company has confirmed that all three versions use dual electric motors, with one motor driving each axle to provide all wheel drive.

The iX4 40 xDrive develops 374hp and 520Nm of torque. It uses an 82.6kWh usable battery and offers a WLTP range of between 526km and 638km, depending on specification and conditions. The model can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 200kmph.

The more powerful iX4 50 xDrive produces 469hp and 645Nm of torque. It uses a 108.7kWh usable battery and offers a WLTP range of between 680km and 828km. BMW says the model can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 210kmph. The exact range depends on configuration and market conditions.

One of the major highlights of the new BMW iX4 is its charging capability. The iX4 uses an 800V electrical architecture and BMW’s sixth generation eDrive technology. The iX4 50 xDrive supports DC fast charging at up to 400kW. BMW says the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 21 minutes when connected to a compatible high power charging station. The company also claims that the iX4 50 xDrive can add a significant amount of driving range during a short charging session.

BMW has also introduced new cylindrical battery cells for the iX4. According to the company, the latest battery technology increases energy density compared with the previous generation. The combination of higher energy density, improved electric motors and 800V technology is designed to improve both range and charging performance.

The design of the BMW iX4 follows the latest Neue Klasse design language but gives it a distinct coupe inspired identity. The SUV features a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a flowing roofline. BMW has also worked on aerodynamics, with the company quoting a low drag coefficient of 0.23. The front section carries the latest BMW kidney grille and lighting design, while the rear receives slim horizontal tail lamps and a prominent spoiler.

The iX4 measures 4,782mm in length, 1,895mm in width and 1,595mm in height, with a 2,897mm wheelbase. Compared with the iX3, the coupe style body is slightly shorter and has a lower roofline. The design is intended to provide a sportier appearance while retaining sufficient space for everyday use.

Inside, the BMW iX4 adopts the company’s latest digital interface. The cabin features a 17.9 inch central touchscreen along with BMW Panoramic Vision technology that displays information across the lower section of the windscreen. Depending on the variant and equipment level, buyers can also get advanced driver assistance systems, powered front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected car functions, ambient lighting and wireless charging.

The coupe roofline does have an effect on practicality. The iX4 has a 490 litre boot, while rear headroom is slightly reduced compared with the more upright iX3. However, BMW has designed the vehicle around a balance between everyday usability and a sportier exterior profile.

The range topping BMW iX4 M60 xDrive will provide substantially higher performance. It is expected to produce 612hp and 875Nm of torque. BMW says the M60 xDrive can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 3.9 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 240kmph. Its WLTP range is listed at up to 777km.

The M60 xDrive will also receive additional performance and styling features associated with BMW M. These include distinctive exterior elements, larger wheels, M specific interior details and enhanced suspension equipment. BMW plans to introduce this version shortly after the initial iX4 launch.

The new BMW iX4 represents an important step in the company’s electric vehicle strategy because it combines the Neue Klasse platform with a body style aimed at customers looking for a more distinctive alternative to a conventional electric SUV. Its combination of long range, fast charging, all wheel drive and new digital technology places it among BMW’s next generation electric models.

For the Indian market, BMW has not yet confirmed launch timing, variant details or pricing for the iX4. Therefore, the European and global specifications should not be treated as confirmed India specifications. BMW is expected to reveal market specific details closer to the vehicle’s respective launch plans.

With production and market introduction scheduled from March 2027, the BMW iX4 will become one of the company’s key electric SUV coupe models. Its Neue Klasse platform, 800V architecture, fast charging capability and high range figures are expected to make it an important competitor in the premium electric SUV segment.

Its combination of long range, fast charging, all wheel drive and new digital technology places it among BMW’s next generation electric models.
