Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, a new all electric four door grand tourer that marks a major step in the British luxury brand's transition towards an electric only future. The model has been revealed internationally in New York and is positioned as the first production Jaguar built on the company's dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture, known as JEA.
The Type 01 is designed, engineered and developed in the United Kingdom. Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at its Solihull operations. Electric drive units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be manufactured at Halewood in Merseyside. Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries planned for the second half of the year.
Performance and Electric Powertrain
The Jaguar Type 01 is powered by a tri motor electric powertrain with all wheel drive. Jaguar says the system can produce up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque. This makes the Type 01 the most powerful production Jaguar announced so far.
The electric grand tourer can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 3.2 seconds. The three motor setup is designed to deliver instant torque and strong all wheel traction. Jaguar has also equipped the vehicle with intelligent torque vectoring to help manage the available power.
The performance package is supported by an advanced suspension system. The Type 01 uses four corner air suspension, switchable volume air springs and twin valve active dampers. All wheel steering is also available to improve manoeuvrability at lower speeds while providing greater stability at higher speeds.
Battery and Driving Range
The Type 01 uses a 118 kWh usable battery pack and an 850 volt electrical architecture. Jaguar estimates that the vehicle can achieve up to 400 miles of EPA range, although final certified figures can vary depending on testing and market specifications.
The company also claims that the EV can add up to 200 miles of range in around 13 minutes when connected to a 350 kW rapid DC charging system. Jaguar's official Type 01 information also lists a 10 to 80 percent charging time of as little as 22 minutes under suitable charging conditions.
These figures are manufacturer's estimates and actual range and charging performance can vary depending on factors such as driving conditions, temperature, speed, load, wheel and tyre configuration and battery condition.
Exterior Design
The Type 01 has a dramatically different appearance compared with Jaguar's earlier production cars. Its design features a low roofline, long bonnet and extended body profile, giving it the proportions of a high performance grand tourer.
Jaguar says the vehicle's design takes inspiration from some of the company's historic models, including the E Type and XJS, while introducing a new design language for its electric era.
The front features slim LED headlights and Jaguar's new signature visual treatment. At the rear, full width lighting is integrated into the design. The car also uses a glassless tailgate and a distinctive rear profile.
The Type 01 is equipped with large 23 inch wheels designed to combine visual presence with aerodynamic efficiency. Jaguar has also integrated several exterior components into the bodywork, including hidden door handles and a deployable rear spoiler.
The company says the new body architecture allowed its designers to create a low and aerodynamic shape while maintaining the proportions required for a four door grand tourer.
Interior and Technology
The interior of the Type 01 follows the same design focused approach as the exterior. Jaguar has created a four occupant cabin with premium materials and a central design element that extends through the cabin.
One of the most prominent features is the large 24 inch OLED display positioned ahead of the driver. A secondary seven inch screen is positioned between the driver and front passenger to provide access to additional controls.
The Type 01 also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging and a 5G Wi Fi hotspot. The vehicle's digital ecosystem supports software updates and connected services through the Jaguar application.
Another distinctive feature is the ClearSight rear view display. Instead of relying solely on a conventional rear view mirror, the system uses a camera based view displayed inside the cabin.
Jaguar has also fitted a 3D surround camera system to provide additional visibility around the vehicle. A voice assistant is designed to respond to conversational commands, including functions related to navigation and charging.
Luxury and Comfort Features
As a flagship grand tourer, the Type 01 places considerable emphasis on cabin comfort and luxury. Jaguar says the vehicle features a panoramic soundbar developed with Meridian, along with additional speakers positioned throughout the cabin.
The front seats include a hot stone massage function, while the cabin can be configured with different lighting and comfort settings. Jaguar has also developed cabin mood functions that combine interior lighting, fragrance and the panoramic roof blind.
The company has used a combination of leather and non leather materials, including textile elements, to create a premium environment. The cabin also includes hidden storage areas and more than 450 litres of combined load space, according to Jaguar.
Charging and Connected Features
The Type 01 is designed to make public charging easier through connected navigation and charging services. Jaguar's route planning system can identify charging requirements during a journey and incorporate charging stops into navigation.
The vehicle has charging ports on both sides, allowing greater flexibility depending on how the car is positioned at a charging station. Jaguar has also developed thermal management technology to regulate battery and cabin temperatures in different weather conditions.
The Jaguar mobile application will provide access to charging information and connected vehicle functions. Owners will also be able to use the app for features such as remote locking, unlocking and cabin pre conditioning.
Production and Price
Jaguar has confirmed that production of the Type 01 will begin in 2027 at the company's Solihull facility in the United Kingdom. The model is part of Jaguar's wider strategy to reposition itself as a luxury electric vehicle brand.
Orders are expected to open at the beginning of 2027, while first customer deliveries are planned for the second half of the year. Jaguar Land Rover has announced a starting price of £130,000 in the UK. The final price in other markets will depend on local taxes, specifications and equipment.
The Type 01 is therefore not positioned as a mass market electric vehicle. Instead, Jaguar is targeting the premium and luxury EV segment with a model that combines high performance, distinctive styling and advanced technology.
What the Type 01 Means for Jaguar
The Type 01 represents an important change in Jaguar's product strategy. The company describes it as the first vehicle in a new generation of Jaguars and as the foundation for its future electric range.
The model combines a dedicated EV platform, high power output, long range capability and a technology focused interior. Its unusual design is also intended to give Jaguar a distinctive identity in the increasingly competitive luxury electric vehicle market.
The Type 01 is expected to compete in a segment that includes high performance electric grand tourers and luxury EVs from established European manufacturers. Its combination of more than 1,000 PS, all wheel drive, advanced suspension and rapid charging gives it a strong technical specification.
However, the final assessment of the vehicle will depend on its real world driving performance, production specifications, pricing and customer deliveries. Jaguar's current range and performance figures remain subject to final certification and market specific homologation.
Overall, the Jaguar Type 01 is a major new product for the brand. With more than 1,000 PS, an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, an 850 volt electrical system, a 118 kWh battery and an extensive technology package, it represents Jaguar's most ambitious move into the electric luxury vehicle segment. Production is scheduled to start in the UK in 2027, with orders opening early in the year and customer deliveries expected later in 2027.
