Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced the third generation GLA, marking the debut of a fully electric version in the luxury compact SUV lineup. The new GLA 250 Plus has been developed on the company's latest Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform and combines extended driving range, rapid charging technology and advanced digital features.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the GLA 250 Plus delivers a claimed WLTP certified driving range of up to 657 kilometres on a full charge. The extended range is designed to make the electric SUV suitable for both daily commuting and longer journeys, depending on driving conditions, weather, terrain and vehicle usage.
One of the key highlights of the new model is its fast charging capability. Mercedes-Benz states that the GLA EV supports high power DC fast charging, enabling the battery to be charged in approximately 22 minutes under compatible charging conditions. Actual charging time may vary depending on battery temperature, charger capacity, state of charge and environmental conditions.
The electric GLA has been engineered to deliver improved energy efficiency through optimized aerodynamics, advanced battery management systems and the latest electric powertrain technologies. The new MMA platform has been specifically developed to support both fully electric and hybrid models, allowing Mercedes-Benz to offer multiple powertrain options within the same vehicle family.
Inside the cabin, the third generation GLA features Mercedes-Benz's latest digital cockpit with advanced infotainment technology, connected vehicle services and over the air software update capability. Buyers can also expect premium interior materials, enhanced comfort features and a range of advanced driver assistance systems designed to improve safety and convenience.
The exterior design has also been updated with a more aerodynamic profile, redesigned LED lighting, a modern front fascia and distinctive styling elements that differentiate the electric version from previous generations. The SUV retains the practical dimensions expected from the GLA while introducing a more contemporary design language.
Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its global electric vehicle portfolio as part of its long term strategy to transition toward sustainable mobility. The introduction of the electric GLA strengthens the company's presence in the premium compact electric SUV segment, where demand continues to increase across international markets.
Industry analysts believe the combination of long driving range, premium technology and fast charging capability will make the new GLA EV a competitive offering in the luxury electric vehicle market. However, market specific specifications, pricing, variant availability and launch timelines will vary by country and will be announced separately by Mercedes-Benz.
Customers interested in the new electric GLA are advised to follow official Mercedes-Benz announcements for confirmed details regarding availability, technical specifications and regional launch schedules.
