Gold prices continued their upward movement on August 8, 2026, rising for the fourth consecutive session. Investors, jewellery buyers and households across India are closely tracking the latest gold rates as the precious metal remains an important investment and savings option.

The latest city wise rates show variations in the prices of 24 carat, 22 carat and 18 carat gold. Delhi recorded a 24 carat gold price of Rs 150040 per 10 grams, while the 22 carat rate stood at Rs 137550 and the 18 carat rate was Rs 112570 per 10 grams.

In Chennai, 24 carat gold was priced at Rs 150000 per 10 grams. The 22 carat rate stood at Rs 137500, while 18 carat gold was priced at Rs 115650 per 10 grams.

Mumbai and Kolkata recorded a 24 carat gold rate of Rs 149890 per 10 grams. The 22 carat price in both cities was Rs 137400, while 18 carat gold was priced at Rs 112420 per 10 grams.

Lucknow recorded rates similar to Delhi, with 24 carat gold at Rs 150040 per 10 grams, 22 carat gold at Rs 137550 and 18 carat gold at Rs 112570.

Gold prices can vary from one city to another because of several factors. Local market conditions, transportation expenses, taxes, supply and demand and other costs can influence the final rate quoted by dealers.

The purity of gold is another major factor in determining its price. Twenty four carat gold is considered the highest purity commonly traded in the market, while 22 carat gold is widely used for jewellery. Eighteen carat gold contains a higher proportion of other metals and is commonly used for certain jewellery products.

The difference between the three categories means that buyers should check the purity before comparing prices. A lower carat does not necessarily indicate poor quality, but it contains a different proportion of pure gold.

The latest rates show that several northern cities have recorded the same quoted price. Delhi, Lucknow, Meerut, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Ghaziabad, Noida, Jaipur and Ludhiana have reported a 24 carat rate of Rs 150040 per 10 grams.

In these cities, the quoted 22 carat rate is Rs 137550 per 10 grams, while the 18 carat rate is Rs 112570.

Patna has recorded a 24 carat gold price of Rs 149940 per 10 grams. The 22 carat rate is Rs 137450 and the 18 carat rate is Rs 112470.

Indore and Ahmedabad have also recorded 24 carat gold at Rs 149940 per 10 grams, with 22 carat gold at Rs 137450 and 18 carat gold at Rs 112470.

Vadodara has reported the same quoted rates, with 24 carat gold at Rs 149940 per 10 grams, 22 carat at Rs 137450 and 18 carat at Rs 112470.

Pune and Nagpur have recorded a 24 carat rate of Rs 149890 per 10 grams. The 22 carat rate is Rs 137400 and the 18 carat rate is Rs 112420.

Nashik has recorded a slightly different rate. The price of 24 carat gold is Rs 149920 per 10 grams, while 22 carat gold is Rs 137430 and 18 carat gold is Rs 112450.

Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Raipur and Hyderabad have recorded a 24 carat gold rate of Rs 149890 per 10 grams. The 22 carat rate in these cities is Rs 137400, while 18 carat gold is priced at Rs 112420.

Guwahati has also recorded 24 carat gold at Rs 149890 per 10 grams, with 22 carat at Rs 137400 and 18 carat at Rs 112420.

The difference in rates between cities is relatively small in the quoted data, but consumers should still compare prices before making a purchase. Jewellery shops may quote different final prices depending on the product and additional charges.

It is important to remember that the displayed gold rate is not necessarily the final amount paid by a jewellery buyer. Making charges, taxes and other applicable costs can increase the final purchase price.

Jewellery buyers should also check the purity certification and invoice details before completing a transaction. Hallmark information can help consumers verify the stated purity of gold jewellery.

Gold prices are influenced by both domestic and international market factors. Global gold prices, currency movements, interest rate expectations, investor demand and geopolitical developments can all contribute to changes in the domestic market.

The Indian rupee also plays an important role because international gold prices are generally linked to global markets. Changes in the rupee's value against the US dollar can influence domestic gold prices.

Investor demand is another important factor. During periods of economic uncertainty or market volatility, some investors increase their exposure to gold as a traditional store of value.

On the other hand, changes in interest rates and broader financial market conditions can influence investor demand for the precious metal.

For jewellery buyers, daily gold price movements can affect purchasing decisions. Some consumers may wait for prices to fall before making large purchases, while others may buy when they believe prices could increase further.

However, short term movements do not necessarily indicate the long term direction of gold prices. Consumers should consider their financial requirements and purchasing purpose before making investment decisions.

The August 8 rates show that gold remains at elevated levels across major Indian markets. With prices rising for the fourth consecutive session, market participants will continue to monitor domestic and international developments.

For buyers planning to purchase jewellery, comparing rates between dealers can be useful because the final cost can differ even when the base gold rate is similar.

The quoted prices are generally presented per 10 grams for the three purity categories. Buyers should confirm the latest rate with their local jeweller before making a transaction because market prices can change during the day.

Gold remains an important part of household savings and India's jewellery market. Changes in prices can therefore affect both consumers and investors.

As of August 8, 2026, the latest quoted rates show 24 carat gold at Rs 150040 per 10 grams in Delhi and several other cities, while Chennai is at Rs 150000. Mumbai, Kolkata and several other cities have recorded Rs 149890.

The continued rise in gold prices will remain an important development for consumers, investors and the jewellery industry. Buyers should check the latest local rates, purity, making charges and applicable taxes before finalising any purchase.
