A recent study conducted by HSBC has highlighted the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence among India's high net worth individuals, indicating that technology is becoming an important part of financial planning and wealth management. According to the survey, 86 percent of respondents reported using artificial intelligence tools in some capacity. At the same time, the findings suggest that investors continue to place significant trust in human expertise when making important financial decisions.
The study reflects the evolving relationship between technology and traditional advisory services in India's financial sector. Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to analyse market trends, evaluate investment opportunities, monitor portfolios, and provide personalised financial insights. Despite these technological advancements, many investors believe that experienced financial professionals remain essential for interpreting complex market conditions and developing long term investment strategies.
Speaking about the changing landscape of wealth management, HSBC India executives emphasised that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a tool that complements professional advice rather than replacing it. According to the bank, technology can improve efficiency by processing large volumes of financial data quickly, while experienced advisors continue to provide strategic guidance based on market knowledge, client objectives, and risk tolerance.
The survey also highlighted the growing acceptance of digital banking services among affluent customers. Investors are increasingly using mobile applications, digital investment platforms, and online banking solutions to manage their finances. The combination of advanced technology and personalised advisory services has become an important feature of modern wealth management.
HSBC also discussed the expansion of its operations at Gujarat International Finance Tec City, commonly known as GIFT City. The international financial services centre has emerged as an important hub for global banking, investment, and financial services in India. Banks and financial institutions continue to strengthen their presence in GIFT City to provide international banking solutions, investment products, and cross border financial services.
The discussion also covered Foreign Currency Non Resident deposits, commonly referred to as FCNR deposits. These deposits allow eligible non resident Indians to maintain foreign currency accounts in India while reducing exposure to exchange rate fluctuations. Financial institutions continue to offer FCNR deposits as part of their international banking services for customers residing abroad.
Recent regulatory measures introduced by the Reserve Bank of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India were also highlighted during the discussion. These regulatory initiatives are intended to strengthen financial stability, improve investor protection, enhance market transparency, and encourage responsible innovation within the banking and financial sectors.
Artificial intelligence continues to play an expanding role across the global banking industry. Financial institutions are increasingly deploying AI powered technologies for customer service, fraud detection, credit assessment, compliance monitoring, and investment research. However, industry experts generally agree that technology should support rather than replace human decision making, particularly in areas involving complex financial planning and personalised investment advice.
India's wealth management industry continues to experience steady growth, supported by rising incomes, increasing financial awareness, and broader participation in capital markets. The adoption of digital technologies is expected to accelerate further as investors seek faster access to financial information and customised investment solutions.
The HSBC findings illustrate that while artificial intelligence has become an important component of modern banking and wealth management, human judgement remains central to investment decisions. Financial institutions are expected to continue integrating advanced technologies with personalised advisory services to meet the evolving needs of investors while maintaining trust, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
