New Delhi, June 5
India's Gross Domestic Product growth for the financial year 2025-26 is estimated at 7.7 percent, reflecting sustained economic momentum across key sectors of the economy. The latest estimate highlights the resilience of the Indian economy amid a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures and uncertainty in international markets.
According to official data, economic activity remained robust throughout the financial year, supported by strong domestic consumption, government spending and continued growth in the services sector. Manufacturing, construction and infrastructure development also contributed significantly to overall economic expansion.
The fourth quarter of FY26 recorded growth of 7.8 percent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. Although slightly lower than the revised growth recorded in the preceding quarter, the performance remained stronger than many market expectations and reinforced India's position as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies.
Economists have pointed out that domestic demand has remained a major driver of growth. Household consumption, increased infrastructure investment and rising business activity helped support economic expansion throughout the year. The services sector, including finance, technology, transportation and trade, continued to play a leading role in driving overall growth.
The government has also introduced reforms and policy measures aimed at improving investment, manufacturing and ease of doing business. These initiatives have contributed to investor confidence and supported economic activity across various sectors. Infrastructure spending by both central and state governments has remained an important factor in sustaining growth momentum.
Despite the positive growth figures, policymakers remain cautious about external risks. Global conflicts, fluctuations in crude oil prices, international trade uncertainties and weather-related challenges could affect economic prospects in the coming months. The Reserve Bank of India has also highlighted these factors while assessing future growth and inflation trends.
Financial experts believe that India's large domestic market, expanding digital economy and growing industrial base provide strong foundations for long-term economic growth. Continued investment in infrastructure, manufacturing and technology is expected to support future expansion and employment generation.
The latest GDP estimate further strengthens India's standing among major global economies. International investors and economic institutions continue to closely monitor India's performance as the country seeks to maintain high growth while ensuring macroeconomic stability.
As policymakers focus on sustaining economic momentum, attention will remain on investment flows, inflation management, employment generation and export performance. The coming fiscal year will be important in determining whether India can maintain its strong growth trajectory amid evolving global economic conditions
