This subdued performance was in line with broader market weakness, as both the Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices showed minimal movement, pointing to a lack of strong buying or selling interest in the market.

The Indian stock markets started the day on a weaker note, reflecting negative trends from global markets, particularly Asia. The BSE Sensex witnessed a decline of over 200 points in early trade, settling at 77,942. Similarly, the Nifty 50 index dropped below the 23,650 level, indicating a cautious sentiment among investors. This subdued performance was in line with broader market weakness, as both the Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices showed minimal movement, pointing to a lack of strong buying or selling interest in the market.

Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, noted that the downside risks for the market eased as anticipated, without breaching the 23,400 level from the previous session. Despite the lack of significant momentum in the recent pullback, technical indicators such as the formation of an inside bar and a hammer pattern in the last two days suggest a potential upmove could be on the cards. According to James, a push above the 23,752 mark would provide confirmation for a move towards 23,900 or 24,000 levels.

On the downside, the key support levels are placed near 23,630 or 23,570. James emphasized that an outright fall below the 23,263 mark is unlikely to occur immediately, with major support levels seen at 23,000 and 22,260. These levels could act as crucial areas to watch for any potential rebound in the market. Overall, while the market has opened on a weak note, the technical outlook remains neutral to cautiously optimistic in the short term.
