India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., has reported a 7% year-on-year growth in total sales for April 2025, marking a strong start to the new financial year. The company sold over 1.7 lakh units, driven primarily by robust demand in the hatchback segment.

According to the official statement from the company, domestic sales for the month stood at around 1.45 lakh units, while exports accounted for approximately 25,000 units. The company's compact car portfolio, including the Alto, Swift, WagonR, and Baleno, continued to dominate sales, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki's stronghold in the entry-level and mid-range car segments.

Hatchbacks Continue to Dominate

The April 2025 figures highlight the continued preference of Indian consumers for small and compact cars, which are more affordable, fuel-efficient, and better suited for urban driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki’s core strength lies in this category, which forms a major part of its sales mix.

Models like the Alto and Swift saw a healthy increase in bookings and deliveries, while the Baleno and Dzire also performed well, despite rising competition from other automakers in the mid-segment.

Export Market Performance

Maruti’s export volumes remained stable, with minor fluctuations due to logistical constraints and global economic factors. The company continues to export vehicles to several countries in Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia. The export portfolio includes models like Dzire, Celerio, and the new-gen Fronx.
