With multiple launches and updates planned for 2025, the company is positioning itself to maintain leadership in the competitive Indian automobile market.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s largest automobile manufacturer, has released its sales data for April, revealing strong performance across several key segments. The company’s compact sedan Dzire and the compact SUV Brezza led the charts in terms of volume, underlining Maruti's dominance in the mid-size and utility vehicle segments.

According to the company’s report, total passenger vehicle sales, including domestic and export units, reached over 1.43 lakh units in April. Out of these, domestic sales accounted for approximately 1.37 lakh units, showing a stable performance compared to the same month last year.

The Dzire, known for its fuel efficiency and affordability, topped the compact car category, reinforcing its status as a popular choice among urban and semi-urban buyers. Meanwhile, the Brezza SUV continued to perform strongly in the utility vehicle segment, thanks to its recent upgrades in styling, technology, and safety features.

In the compact car segment, which includes models like the Swift, Baleno, and WagonR, Maruti Suzuki sold around 70,000 units. While this segment witnessed a modest year-on-year change, it still contributes significantly to the company’s total sales. The Alto and S-Presso, categorized under mini cars, recorded over 10,000 units in sales.

The utility vehicle portfolio, which features the Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and Fronx, contributed nearly 40,000 units to April’s total figures. This segment saw one of the highest growth rates for the company, reflecting increasing consumer preference for SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles. The Grand Vitara and Fronx have also helped Maruti strengthen its hold in the premium crossover and compact SUV categories.

On the exports front, Maruti Suzuki shipped over 17,000 units during the month. The company has been steadily increasing its presence in overseas markets, including Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Models like the Dzire, Baleno, and Celerio continue to be in demand in export regions.

The company’s commercial vehicle division, which includes the Super Carry, saw a modest performance, with over 2,500 units sold. This marks a steady demand in the light commercial vehicle space, particularly among small business owners and fleet operators.

In a statement, Maruti Suzuki officials said the company is focused on expanding its product portfolio, enhancing production efficiency, and improving customer experience across touchpoints. "Despite challenges related to input costs and market volatility, we are optimistic about consumer demand heading into the new financial year," the statement read.

Maruti Suzuki also noted that its hybrid and CNG offerings are gaining traction, with more consumers exploring alternate fuel options due to rising fuel prices and environmental concerns. The company plans to launch more eco-friendly vehicles in the coming quarters.

As the automotive sector continues to recover post-pandemic, Maruti Suzuki’s performance in April indicates steady demand across categories. With multiple launches and updates planned for 2025, the company is positioning itself to maintain leadership in the competitive Indian automobile market.

Out of these, domestic sales accounted for approximately 1.37 lakh units, showing a stable performance compared to the same month last year.
