India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has announced that it will increase the prices of its vehicles starting April 8, 2025. The company cited a rise in input and operational costs as the main reason behind this decision.
In an official statement, Maruti Suzuki said, “Over the past year, the cost of raw materials, logistics, and overall manufacturing has gone up significantly. While the company has been absorbing a large part of this burden, it has now become imperative to pass on some of these costs to customers.”
The price hike will be applicable across the entire range of vehicles, including popular models like Alto K10, Swift, Baleno, Brezza, Ertiga, and Grand Vitara. However, the quantum of increase will vary depending on the model and variant.
This isn’t the first time the company has increased prices. In fact, most automakers in India, including Tata Motors, Hyundai, and Mahindra, have announced similar hikes in recent months due to global inflationary pressures, supply chain challenges, and regulatory updates such as stricter emission norms.
Industry experts believe that while the move might slightly impact short-term sales, it is necessary for the automaker to maintain profitability and continue investments in new technologies like electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid models.
For customers considering a new car purchase, this announcement means that buying before April 8 could help them avoid higher prices. Maruti Suzuki dealerships have also reported a surge in bookings in anticipation of the hike.
Consumers are advised to check with their local dealerships for the exact price difference applicable to specific models and variants post-April 8.
As the auto sector navigates through volatile market conditions, price adjustments like these are expected to become more frequent across manufacturers.
