Ambani said that 5G will be central to India’s digital growth story, supporting smart cities, connected devices, and new business models.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, at the Reliance Annual General Meeting 2025, highlighted the remarkable journey of Reliance Jio, calling it one of India’s most transformative success stories in recent decades. He listed five landmark achievements that defined Jio’s path from its disruptive entry in 2016 to its leadership in the 5G era.

The first milestone Ambani mentioned was the introduction of free voice calls and affordable data plans, which dramatically changed India’s telecom sector. When Jio entered the market, it broke away from the traditional pricing model by making voice calls free and offering data at a fraction of the cost. This move triggered a digital revolution, forcing competitors to adapt while giving millions of Indians access to affordable internet services for the first time.

The second achievement was the rapid expansion of Jio’s 4G network. Ambani pointed out that Jio built the largest all-IP 4G network in the world within a short span of time, covering both urban and rural India. This extensive network enabled faster data speeds, smoother streaming, and improved connectivity for individuals and businesses alike. It also created the foundation for India to become one of the world’s largest data consumers.

Ambani then spoke about the third milestone, JioFiber, which aimed at transforming home and office internet services. Offering high-speed broadband with bundled services such as entertainment and smart home solutions, JioFiber set new benchmarks for digital homes in India. Its rollout accelerated digital adoption, especially during the pandemic, when millions relied on fast and stable internet connections for work, education, and entertainment.

The fourth achievement on Jio’s list was the introduction of Jio Platforms, a digital ecosystem that attracted global investors and partners. With investments from technology giants such as Google and Meta, Jio Platforms evolved into more than just a telecom service, branching into areas like digital payments, cloud computing, and e-commerce. This move positioned Jio as a digital powerhouse rather than just a telecom operator.

Finally, Ambani emphasized the fifth and most recent achievement—the rollout of 5G services. Jio’s 5G network, according to him, represents the future of connectivity, offering faster speeds, lower latency, and opportunities for innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, manufacturing, and education. Ambani said that 5G will be central to India’s digital growth story, supporting smart cities, connected devices, and new business models.

Ambani also highlighted how these achievements were not just business successes but also significant contributions to India’s digital empowerment. By making technology affordable and accessible, Jio has brought millions online, created opportunities for startups, and supported the government’s vision of a digital-first economy.

In his concluding remarks, Ambani reiterated that Jio’s mission goes beyond profits. Its focus is on creating long-term value for the nation by ensuring that every Indian, regardless of location or income level, has access to world-class digital services. From free calls to 5G, the story of Jio, Ambani said, is the story of India’s rise as a digital leader.

By making technology affordable and accessible, Jio has brought millions online, created opportunities for startups, and supported the government’s vision of a digital-first economy.
