The Indian stock market continued its upward momentum on Wednesday, with the BSE Sensex rallying 632 points and the NSE Nifty crossing the 23,150 mark. Investors remained optimistic ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision.
Sector-wise, media, capital goods, IT, metal, and realty stocks gained 2-3%, reflecting strong buying interest. Auto, banking, pharma, and oil & gas sectors also contributed to the rally, posting gains of 0.5-1.5%. However, the FMCG index witnessed a decline of 0.5%, making it the only sector to close in the red.
Midcap and Smallcap stocks outperformed the benchmark indices, with the BSE Midcap index surging 2.5% and the Smallcap index jumping 3.2%, showcasing strong investor interest in broader markets.
Among the Nifty’s top performers were Shriram Finance, Bharat Electronics, Wipro, Tata Motors, and SBI Life, all posting significant gains. On the flip side, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, BPCL, Britannia Industries, and ITC were among the session's biggest losers.
Overall, the market sentiment remained bullish as investors awaited global cues, particularly from the U.S. Fed, to gauge future policy directions.
