The stock market opened on a positive note on Tuesday morning, recovering from the sharp decline witnessed the previous day. The Sensex surged by 381.44 points (0.49%), reaching 78,346.43, while the Nifty climbed 114.30 points (0.48%), touching 23,730.35 at the opening bell.
The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of market sentiment, also pointed towards a positive start, trading at 23,811.5 as of 8:15 AM, reflecting a 0.32% gain from its previous close.
On Monday, the market experienced significant losses, driven by concerns surrounding the HMPV virus, which dampened investor sentiment. By the close of trading, the Nifty had fallen by 388.70 points (1.62%) to 23,616.05, while the Sensex plummeted 1,258.12 points (1.59%), closing at 77,964.99.
In the global markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) continued its downward trend, but both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite managed to rise, hitting more than one-week highs. Asian markets, however, are showing strong momentum this morning, largely driven by a rally in the U.S. markets on Monday.
