BITS Pilani has announced a major expansion of its tuition fee scholarship programme, offering 100% tuition fee waivers to eligible students who secure a position among the top 1,000 rankers in the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) from the 2027 admission year.
The initiative is expected to provide significant financial support to academically talented students who wish to pursue undergraduate education at the institute. Under the expanded scheme, eligible students will receive a complete tuition fee waiver for all four years of their undergraduate programme. The benefit will apply to integrated first-degree courses, including Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Master of Science (MSc) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharma).
The announcement was made by BITS Pilani Group Vice-Chancellor V. Ramgopal Rao. The institute aims to make quality higher education more accessible by reducing the financial burden on high-performing students and their families.

Who is eligible for the BITS Pilani scholarship?
Students must secure a rank within the top 1,000 in BITSAT to be considered for the expanded scholarship. However, securing a top rank alone will not be sufficient.
The annual family income of the eligible candidate must not exceed Rs 20 lakh. Students who meet both the entrance examination ranking and family income requirements will qualify for the full tuition fee scholarship.
There is also an academic performance requirement. Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.5 at their respective campuses to continue receiving the financial assistance throughout their programme.
The conditions are intended to support students who demonstrate strong performance in the entrance examination while encouraging them to maintain good academic standards during their undergraduate studies.
Scholarship covers all four years
One of the key benefits of the programme is that the tuition fee waiver will cover the entire four-year duration of the eligible undergraduate programme.
The scholarship will apply to BITS Pilani's integrated first-degree programmes, including BE, MSc and BPharma courses. Students who qualify will not have to pay the tuition fee covered under the scholarship, subject to meeting the eligibility and academic continuation requirements.
However, students should distinguish between a tuition fee waiver and a complete waiver of every expense associated with studying at the institute. The announced benefit specifically covers tuition fees. Other charges, such as accommodation, food, admission fees and other applicable expenses, should be checked separately through the institute's official admission information.
No separate scholarship application required
BITS Pilani has also clarified that eligible students will not need to submit a separate scholarship application after securing admission.
The scholarship will be included directly in the admission offer for candidates who meet the required conditions. This is expected to give students greater clarity about the financial support available to them while making their admission decisions.
The arrangement is designed to reduce uncertainty during the admission process. Students will be able to consider joining BITS Pilani based on their academic interests and career goals without having to wait for a separate scholarship application decision.
The institute believes that financial limitations should not prevent academically deserving candidates from pursuing higher education at its campuses.

Expansion from the earlier top 500 scholarship scheme
The new announcement expands an existing scholarship initiative. BITS Pilani had introduced full tuition fee support for eligible students among the top 500 BITSAT rankers from the 2026-27 academic year.
According to Group Vice-Chancellor V. Ramgopal Rao, the institute observed a positive response to the earlier initiative. The number of eligible students from the top 500 BITSAT rankers who joined BITS Pilani increased by 50 per cent in 2026.
The score required to enter the top 500 rank group also increased from 314 to 324. The institute further reported an increase in the number of students ranked between 501 and 1,000 joining its campuses, even though they were not covered by the earlier top 500 scholarship provision.
Overall, the number of students joining from the top 1,000 rankers increased by 50 per cent, according to the institute's statement. The expansion is intended to extend the benefits to a larger group of high-performing candidates.

BITS Pilani's financial assistance programme
The expanded scholarship scheme is part of BITS Pilani's broader financial assistance programme for students.
During the 2025-26 academic year, the institute distributed approximately Rs 190 crore through scholarships, fee waivers and fellowships across its First Degree, Higher Degree and PhD programmes.
Of this amount, around Rs 101 crore was allocated to First Degree students through merit-based scholarships, merit-cum-need assistance and international student scholarships.
The institute stated that approximately one in every four students across its campuses received some form of financial assistance during the academic year.
The new top 1,000 BITSAT scholarship initiative is expected to strengthen this support system and encourage more academically talented students to consider the institute for higher education.
