The detailed notification is a crucial document for candidates as it outlines eligibility criteria, exam dates, syllabus, application instructions, and rules related to attempts and age limits.

The Union Public Service Commission is set to release the much awaited notification for the Civil Services Examination 2026, with indications suggesting that the registration process could begin within the current week. Aspirants preparing for India’s most competitive examination are advised to keep a close watch on the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in, where the notification and application link will be published.

The Civil Services Examination is conducted annually to recruit officers for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service, and several other central services. The detailed notification is a crucial document for candidates as it outlines eligibility criteria, exam dates, syllabus, application instructions, and rules related to attempts and age limits.

As per the UPSC annual examination calendar released earlier, the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026. The prelims exam serves as the first stage of the selection process and consists of two objective type papers, General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II, commonly known as CSAT.

Initially, the detailed notification for UPSC CSE 2026 was expected to be released on January 14. However, the commission postponed the release for reasons that have not been officially disclosed. This delay led to uncertainty among aspirants, many of whom are in the final stages of preparation and awaiting clarity on timelines.

Once the notification is released, candidates will be able to submit their applications online through the UPSC One Time Registration system. Applicants must complete registration, fill in personal and educational details, upload required documents, and pay the prescribed examination fee within the stipulated deadline.

The notification will also clearly mention the number of attempts allowed for different categories. Currently, candidates from the General category are permitted six attempts, while OBC candidates are allowed nine attempts. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for SC and ST candidates within the upper age limit. Candidates belonging to the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category are also entitled to additional relaxations, subject to UPSC rules.

In addition to attempt limits, the notification will confirm age eligibility, reservation norms, and provisions related to relaxation for defence personnel, ex servicemen, and other eligible groups. Any changes or updates to the exam pattern or syllabus, if introduced, will also be officially communicated through the notification.

UPSC generally advises candidates to rely only on official communications and avoid unverified information circulating on social media platforms. Aspirants are encouraged to read the notification carefully before applying to avoid errors that could lead to application rejection.

Further updates regarding application deadlines, admit card release, and examination instructions are expected once the notification is officially issued.

This delay led to uncertainty among aspirants, many of whom are in the final stages of preparation and awaiting clarity on timelines.
