The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has reported that its official application portal, upsconline.nic.in, is temporarily unresponsive due to an unusually high number of users attempting to apply for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026. With the last date for applications ending today, many aspirants are facing difficulties accessing the website. UPSC consistently advises candidates to complete their applications well ahead of deadlines to prevent technical glitches or server overload during peak hours.

The UPSC CSE is one of India’s most prestigious examinations, offering 933 vacancies across various central government services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and other Group A and B services. Candidates who successfully clear the exam can look forward to serving in high-profile administrative and policymaking roles across the country.

The selection process is conducted in multiple stages to ensure comprehensive assessment of candidates’ aptitude, knowledge, and personality. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination, which consists of objective-type questions designed to test general studies and aptitude. Candidates who qualify the Prelims are eligible to appear for the Main Examination, a rigorous written assessment covering essay writing, optional subjects, and general studies papers.

Shortlisted candidates from the Main Examination are then called for the Personality Test (Interview), which evaluates communication skills, problem-solving ability, and suitability for a career in civil services. After successfully clearing the interview, candidates undergo document verification to ensure eligibility criteria are met, followed by a medical examination to confirm fitness for service. Only those who meet all requirements are appointed to their respective services.

Eligibility for the CSE 2026 requires candidates to hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline. The age limit is set between 21 and 32 years as of the specified date, with upper age relaxation provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories in line with government norms. Candidates should carefully verify their eligibility before applying to avoid rejection at later stages.

Given the current website issues, UPSC recommends that candidates attempt to access the portal during off-peak hours or use direct links provided by the commission. Technical errors during peak application times are common due to heavy traffic, and delays in submission could affect candidates’ chances of appearing for the examination. Early submission ensures that all necessary documents and fee payments are successfully uploaded without risk.

Candidates are also advised to keep scanned copies of educational certificates, photographs, signatures, and other required documents ready before beginning the online application process. Maintaining a printout of the submitted application form is helpful for future reference during subsequent stages of the examination.

With UPSC CSE being one of the most competitive exams in India, meticulous preparation, timely application, and adherence to instructions are crucial for success. Candidates experiencing website issues should stay updated through official UPSC notifications and social media channels to avoid missing deadlines.
