Vivek Agnihotri, acclaimed director of The Kashmir Files, has officially announced the release date for his next project, The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter. The film is set to premiere on August 15, 2025, coinciding with India’s Independence Day, a date symbolizing freedom and national pride. This film marks a significant addition to Indian cinema, exploring the nuances of a historical narrative that has yet to be fully told.
The announcement was made via social media, where Agnihotri shared a thought-provoking poster that features a silhouette of a child reaching towards the three-lion national emblem of India. This imagery encapsulates the film’s thematic focus on the “Right to Life,” hinting at a poignant exploration of the struggles faced by individuals in the quest for justice and truth.
The Delhi Files was initially conceptualized as a single feature, but Agnihotri revealed that extensive research uncovered a narrative too powerful to be contained in just one installment. This decision led to the creation of two parts, with The Bengal Chapter being the first. This project continues Agnihotri’s exploration of untold stories in India’s post-independence era, following the earlier installments of his trilogy: The Tashkent Files, which investigated the mystery surrounding the death of India's second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, and The Kashmir Files, which focused on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley during the 1990s. The Delhi Files will be produced under the banner of Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Pallavi Joshi, with Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha Productions presenting the film.
