In a society still facing challenges like education inequality and caste discrimination, Karki presents a compelling commentary on social justice, according to filmmaker Prakash Palani. The film's protagonist, Muthuraj, is compelled to leave his village due to a lack of opportunities. Upon his arrival in the city, he becomes painfully aware of the disparities between rural and urban life.
The film features Jai Prakash "JP" Reddy, Meenakshi, and Sadhu Kokila in pivotal roles and is set to release today, September 20, in theaters. Directed by Tamil filmmaker Pavithran and produced under the banner of Third Eye Media, Karki aims to deliver a strong societal message wrapped in a commercial package.
For his role as Muthuraj, JP underwent a physical transformation, losing six kilograms to embody his character authentically. The narrative also highlights a touching relationship between Muthuraj and his pet, Kargi, while Sadhu Kokila infuses humor into the story with his portrayal of a student. Palani expresses confidence that the film successfully balances a serious theme with engaging storytelling, avoiding a preachy tone.
