Director-actor Thej is returning to the screen with Dude, a sport-based action-comedy that blends football and romance. The film is dedicated to the late Puneeth Rajkumar, celebrating his love for the sport through the plot of the "Appu Soccer Tournament." Thej shared that the film’s unique theme revolves around football, with Rangayana Raghu portraying a football coach who humorously has no knowledge of the game—adding a fun twist to the narrative.
Sanya Kaveramma, the cousin of Rashmika Mandanna, plays the female lead, alongside a talented ensemble of women including Megha, Mohita, Drithi, Anarghya, and more. The film portrays these women as doctors, engineers, and models, all united by their passion for football, making for a refreshing and empowering storyline.
Thej revealed that with football gaining significant traction in Bengaluru, where over 150 coaching centers exist, he aimed to create a narrative that promotes the sport while empowering female characters. The film also showcases football, a rare theme in Kannada cinema, making it stand out as a fresh concept.
In addition to the main cast, the film features senior actors Sundar Raj, Sparsha Rekha, and Vijay Chendoor in key roles. The music for Dude is composed by ML Mohammed, and DOP Prem, known for Ala Modalaindi, handles cinematography.
Currently, the movie is being shot in Bengaluru, with a specially constructed football stadium set in Hennur. Dude is slated for a theatrical release in June 2025 under the production banner of Panoramic Studios.
