In the wake of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's scheduled visit to the Tirumala temple, the BJP has intensified its demand for the CM to declare his faith publicly. This call comes amidst a larger controversy regarding the sale of the sacred Tirumala laddus. Critics, particularly from the BJP, have raised concerns over the commercialization of temple rituals and practices, pointing to Reddy’s Christian background as a matter of public interest.
The laddu row has reignited debates on religious integrity, especially concerning politicians visiting Hindu temples. BJP leaders argue that public figures, particularly those in power, should be transparent about their religious beliefs when engaging in significant religious activities. This issue is also being viewed in the broader context of upcoming elections, with both the BJP and YSRCP trying to strengthen their base among Andhra Pradesh's Hindu majority.
Meanwhile, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board has sought to clarify the steps taken regarding laddu sales, though the controversy shows no signs of slowing down.
