Health and safety officials also reminded people to take precautions against waterborne diseases, which can become a concern during heavy rainfall and flooding.

Tirumala, one of Andhra Pradesh’s prominent pilgrimage destinations, witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday, resulting in waterlogging and road inundation across the town. The persistent showers caused minor traffic disruptions and affected routine movement, especially for pilgrims visiting the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.

Visuals from the town captured streets submerged in rainwater, with vehicles proceeding cautiously through affected areas. Residents and local shopkeepers reported accumulation of water near low-lying stretches, while some footpaths and narrow lanes were temporarily inaccessible due to flooding.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Tirumala received heavy rainfall due to a localized low-pressure system over the region, which has been bringing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal. The weather department has issued a warning of moderate to heavy showers over the next 24 hours, urging residents and pilgrims to remain cautious.

Officials from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and local administration stated that precautionary measures were being implemented to manage the effects of heavy rainfall. Water pumps were activated in waterlogged areas, and traffic personnel were deployed to direct vehicles along safer routes. Temporary road diversions were suggested for stretches that were submerged.

Pilgrims visiting the temple were advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to follow instructions issued by temple authorities. TTD officials highlighted that all facilities, including shelters and medical aid centers, were ready to assist visitors in case of emergencies. Despite the rain, devotees continued their darshan and temple activities, although in a more cautious manner.

Local residents emphasized the challenges posed by heavy rain, particularly in areas where drainage systems are insufficient to handle large volumes of water. Similar situations have been reported in previous monsoon seasons, highlighting the need for better urban planning and enhanced drainage infrastructure in Tirumala.

The IMD forecast indicates that the region is likely to experience intermittent rainfall in the coming days, with possible localized heavy showers. Authorities have encouraged citizens to avoid venturing into flood-prone zones and to stay updated on weather advisories released by the IMD.

Health and safety officials also reminded people to take precautions against waterborne diseases, which can become a concern during heavy rainfall and flooding. Public awareness campaigns were initiated to guide residents and pilgrims on safety measures, including avoiding walking through stagnant water and ensuring proper sanitation.

Meanwhile, Tirumala police and municipal staff continue to monitor roads, especially steep and narrow stretches leading to the temple, to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow. Emergency helplines have been activated to address complaints and provide assistance to stranded commuters or pilgrims.

Heavy rainfall in Tirumala serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by pilgrimage towns during the monsoon season, emphasizing the need for preparedness and community cooperation to manage disruptions effectively.

TTD officials highlighted that all facilities, including shelters and medical aid centers, were ready to assist visitors in case of emergencies.
