In a major step towards technology driven policing, Goa Police have launched PRISM and the e Zero FIR system to enhance public safety and strengthen action against cybercrime. The initiatives were formally introduced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as part of the state government’s push for smarter law enforcement under the broader vision of Digital India.

PRISM, which stands for Proactive Risk Identification and Surveillance Mechanism, is designed to function as a centralised intelligence fusion centre. The system integrates multiple technical and analytical tools into a single digital platform. By consolidating data sources and analytical capabilities, PRISM aims to assist investigative agencies in detecting crime patterns, monitoring suspects and responding to threats more efficiently.

According to officials, the platform focuses on two primary objectives. First, it strengthens investigative support by providing actionable intelligence to officers in the field. Second, it ensures continuous surveillance and monitoring of criminal activities through advanced analytics. The system enables authorities to track suspects, analyse digital footprints and identify patterns that may indicate emerging criminal networks.

One of the key features of PRISM is the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics. The system collects and processes information from various digital sources, including social media platforms and other open source channels. By leveraging automated data analysis, PRISM is expected to speed up the identification of suspects and improve the accuracy of investigations. Officials stated that while human intelligence remains critical, technology driven tools can significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of crime detection.

In addition to PRISM, the Goa Police have introduced the e Zero FIR system to streamline cybercrime complaint registration. Under this system, complaints related to cyber offences can be instantly converted into First Information Reports without delay. This enables immediate initiation of investigation, reducing the time gap between complaint filing and police action. Authorities believe this will be particularly effective in tackling online financial fraud, identity theft and other digital offences where swift response is essential.

Cybercrime has been on the rise across India, prompting law enforcement agencies to adopt advanced technological solutions. The integration of PRISM with the e Zero FIR system is expected to provide a coordinated response mechanism. By combining intelligence analysis with rapid complaint registration, the state aims to create a more responsive and citizen friendly policing environment.

Officials emphasised that data protection and privacy safeguards will be followed while operating these systems. The objective is to enhance security without compromising individual rights. Training programmes are also being conducted to familiarise police personnel with the new digital tools.

With the launch of these initiatives, Goa positions itself among the states adopting modern policing methods to address emerging security challenges. Authorities expressed confidence that PRISM and the e Zero FIR system will improve crime detection rates, strengthen surveillance capabilities and provide faster justice delivery for victims of cybercrime.
