In a major disruption to tourism, over 1,000 tourists have been stranded between Solang Valley and Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh due to a severe snowstorm that has hit the region. The snowstorm, which began overnight, has paralyzed travel between Manali and the high-altitude areas, with road blockages and treacherous conditions making it difficult for vehicles to move. The situation has left numerous tourists stranded, unable to return to Manali or proceed towards their intended destinations.
The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department, along with local authorities, is actively working to clear the snow from the roads and restore normalcy. Heavy snow accumulation has led to difficult conditions on the Manali-Leh Highway and the roads leading up to Rohtang Pass, one of the state’s major tourist attractions. With temperatures dipping and snow accumulation continuing, tourists have been advised to stay in safe locations such as guesthouses and hotels until the weather conditions improve.
Many of the tourists, who had planned to visit Rohtang Pass and other scenic spots in the region, have expressed frustration due to the unexpected disruption. Local authorities are ensuring the availability of food, water, and basic amenities for the stranded tourists. However, with the snowstorm expected to last for several more hours, a full restoration of normal travel conditions is not expected until later in the day.
While this is not an unusual situation for travelers in the area, the sudden onset of the snowstorm has caught many tourists off-guard. Experts say that similar weather events have occurred in the past, but the intensity of the storm this time has caused significant disruptions. The local administration has issued safety advisories, urging tourists to remain patient and stay indoors until the situation stabilizes.
Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing a heavy influx of tourists this winter season, with many heading to Manali, Solang Valley, and Rohtang Pass for snow-related activities. However, the state’s tourism infrastructure has often been challenged by harsh weather conditions, especially in the winter months when snowstorms and avalanches are common in the mountainous regions.
Authorities are prioritizing the safety and well-being of tourists and are hopeful that the roadways will be cleared soon. Meanwhile, travelers are advised to check weather updates regularly and avoid unnecessary travel to high-altitude areas during snowstorms.
