The Farmers Welfare Association has raised allegations of corruption in the rice procurement centers in Chengalpattu. This issue was discussed in a farmers' welfare meeting held at the Chengalpattu Collectorate, chaired by Collector Arunraj. The meeting saw participation from District Revenue Officer Suba Nandini, Deputy Director of Agriculture Premachandran, other officials, and farmers.
During the meeting, farmers highlighted several issues they are facing. One of their primary demands was the establishment of permanent government rice procurement centers in the district. They accused the existing temporary centers of being rife with corruption and malpractices.
Additionally, the farmers requested the removal of encroachments along the water channels feeding the Paliyar Lake and the transfer of the electrical division office from the Paliyar region to Chengalpattu district.
They also raised concerns about the encroachments by private real estate companies in agricultural lands near Vandalur and called for these lands to be reclaimed. Furthermore, they demanded that work on the Maduranthagam Lake be completed without delay and that the Collector take immediate action in this regard.
In response to these concerns, Collector Arunraj assured the farmers that their grievances would be addressed and the necessary steps would be taken to implement solutions as quickly as possible. He emphasized that the authorities would work diligently to resolve the issues raised by the farmers and ensure the smooth functioning of the rice procurement process.
