Seventeen fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly entering Sri Lankan waters. This incident has once again sparked tensions between the two countries over maritime boundary disputes, particularly concerning the fishing community in Tamil Nadu.

In his letter, CM Stalin expressed concerns over the repeated arrests of Indian fishermen and requested the EAM to take immediate steps to ensure their safe return.
Stalin’s appeal emphasized the long-standing issue of fishermen straying into contested waters due to the lack of clear maritime boundaries in the region. He also highlighted the need for continued diplomatic efforts to resolve the matter permanently and prevent further arrests of Indian fishermen.
