In Chengalpattu, residents of Anna Nagar are demanding that the newly constructed ration shop building be opened for public use. The building, which has been built specifically to accommodate the ration shop, is yet to be made operational, despite its completion. Currently, the ration shop is operating out of a rented private building in the Gokulapuram area of the town.
The current premises are too small, leading to overcrowding, especially during busy times. Residents from nearby streets like Chinna Melamiyur, Veerakudi Velar Street, and others rely on this ration shop for essential items. However, due to space constraints, people are often forced to stand outside on the road while waiting to purchase their rations. This situation becomes especially challenging during adverse weather conditions, such as rain and extreme heat.
The elderly and women are facing considerable difficulties in these conditions, as they are forced to wait in the open for extended periods. Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of facilities and have urged the authorities to expedite the process of opening the new building for public use.
The new building is expected to provide more space and a better environment for customers, eliminating the current problems related to congestion and weather exposure. Local residents are hopeful that the authorities will take swift action to open the new ration shop building and improve the situation for the community.
