As weather conditions remain uncertain, homeowners and businesses in Thirumullaivoyal continue to deal with the aftermath of the heavy rains.

Thirumullaivoyal, a densely populated residential locality under Avadi Municipality near Chennai, witnessed heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, bringing daily life to a standstill for thousands of residents. Continuous downpours caused severe waterlogging in multiple low-lying neighborhoods, resulting in flooded roads, disrupted transportation, and significant inconvenience to the public.

Several streets in Thirumullaivoyal were submerged, making it difficult for residents to step out of their homes. Two-wheelers and cars were stranded on flooded roads, while pedestrians struggled to navigate through knee-deep water in some areas. School-going children, daily wage workers, and office commuters were among the worst affected due to disrupted transport services.

Residents reported that rainwater entered many ground-floor houses, damaging furniture, electrical appliances, and essential household items. In some streets, sewage water mixed with rainwater, raising concerns about hygiene and the possible spread of waterborne diseases. Families living in low-lying and poorly drained areas faced the most severe impact.

Local shop owners and small traders also suffered losses as water entered commercial establishments, forcing many to shut operations for the day. Vegetable vendors, roadside shops, and small businesses reported a sharp drop in customer movement due to flooded streets and safety concerns.

Officials from Avadi Municipality stated that drainage staff and motor pumps have been deployed to clear stagnant water in the affected locations. Temporary relief measures are underway, including the clearing of blocked stormwater drains and inspection of vulnerable zones. Civic authorities have assured residents that additional manpower will be deployed if rainfall continues.

The India Meteorological Department has issued forecasts indicating the possibility of more rainfall in Chennai and neighboring districts as part of an ongoing weather system over the Bay of Bengal. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy spells, and report emergency situations to local officials.

Residents have once again raised concerns about inadequate stormwater drainage infrastructure in Thirumullaivoyal. Many pointed out that despite previous flooding incidents, permanent solutions to water stagnation remain unaddressed. Civic activists have urged the municipal administration to undertake long-term infrastructure upgrades to prevent recurring flooding during every monsoon season.

Relief teams are on alert, and disaster management officials are closely monitoring water levels across Avadi Municipality. Health department teams are also expected to carry out precautionary sanitation measures in affected areas to prevent outbreaks of dengue, cholera, or other waterborne infections.

As weather conditions remain uncertain, homeowners and businesses in Thirumullaivoyal continue to deal with the aftermath of the heavy rains. Residents are hoping for immediate relief and long-term flood mitigation plans to ensure that repeated rainfall does not continue to disrupt normal life in the region.
