In a significant step toward empowering rural communities through education and technology, Tamil Nadu Forest Minister Dr M Mathiventhan laid the foundation stone for a Rural Knowledge Centre in Thirumalaipatty village, Namakkal district. The event was attended by local officials, panchayat representatives, and residents of the area, who welcomed the initiative as a progressive move towards inclusive rural development.

The Rural Knowledge Centre is a part of the Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to promote digital access, improve agricultural knowledge, and provide skill development opportunities in rural areas. The centre will be equipped with digital learning infrastructure, internet access, agricultural resource materials, and training modules. It is designed to serve students, farmers, and the general public by offering a range of programs focused on education, sustainable agriculture, health awareness, and government welfare schemes.

Speaking at the event, Minister Mathiventhan emphasized the importance of knowledge accessibility in rural regions. He noted that the government is committed to reducing the rural-urban divide by providing modern facilities and learning platforms to villages. The minister highlighted that such centres would help young students to gain access to competitive exam materials, online education tools, and career guidance.

In addition to academic resources, the centre will also host regular workshops on organic farming, livestock management, water conservation, and forest preservation. Local farmers will benefit from expert-led training sessions and practical demonstrations aimed at increasing agricultural productivity using eco-friendly techniques. The centre is also expected to act as a coordination point for disseminating information on government schemes and rural welfare programs.

The project is being implemented with support from the Forest Department, Rural Development Department, and various non-governmental organizations. The building will be constructed using eco-friendly materials, and the site will include a small green zone with native tree saplings to promote environmental awareness.

Officials mentioned that the centre would also have a dedicated space for school children and college students to access computers, e-learning content, and reading materials. A special focus will be placed on supporting first-generation learners from economically weaker backgrounds.

Dr Mathiventhan reiterated the government’s vision of inclusive growth and stressed that development must reach the grassroots level. He called upon the local community to make full use of the upcoming centre and assured them of continued support for similar projects across the state.

The Rural Knowledge Centre in Thirumalaipatty is expected to be operational within the next few months and is seen as a model initiative that can be replicated in other parts of Tamil Nadu. The project reflects the state’s commitment to promoting education, sustainability, and equal opportunity for all, regardless of geographic location.

It is designed to serve students, farmers, and the general public by offering a range of programs focused on education, sustainable agriculture, health awareness, and government welfare schemes.
