With the government's intervention and the installation of modern coastal protection infrastructure, the future of Kudalur Beach remains uncertain, but the hope is that these efforts will at least slow down the effects of coastal erosion and buy time for more sustainable solutions in the future.

Kudalur Beach, located in the coastal region of Tamil Nadu, has been severely impacted by continuous coastal erosion, threatening the livelihoods of local fishermen. Despite previous efforts to mitigate the damage with protective barriers, the erosion continues to worsen, causing significant concern among the local fishing community. Fishermen are calling for urgent measures to safeguard their homes and workspaces, which are now at risk of being submerged.

Over the years, Kudalur has been battling the effects of coastal erosion, with the shoreline gradually being washed away, damaging the fishing grounds and reducing available spaces for boats to be anchored. The destruction of sand dunes and the continuous threat of submerging residential areas have made it imperative for the government to take swift action.

To tackle this growing issue, the Fisheries Department has collaborated with the National Coastal Research Institute, a body under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The government has committed to implementing a comprehensive coastal protection plan worth ₹20 crore. As part of this initiative, modern sand dike technology has been employed. The institute has used geosynthetic tubes filled with purified sand to build a protective barrier. These tubes, each 25 meters in length, are placed at a depth of 400 meters into the sea, covering a distance of 2 kilometers. The dike is designed to prevent further erosion and protect the coastline from further damage.

However, despite these efforts, the situation remains critical. Fishermen in the region are urging the government to expedite the implementation of the protective measures to ensure that their homes and livelihoods are safeguarded from the ever-advancing sea.
