Dindigul district is witnessing intensified northeast monsoon rains, leading to heavy downpours in various regions. On the second day of rainfall, several areas, including Dindigul city, received substantial rainfall, with showers continuing from afternoon into the early morning hours. The persistent rain has caused widespread disruptions, including power outages, affecting both daily activities and public services. Students are facing difficulties in reaching schools, as rain continues throughout the day.
In mountainous areas like Dindigul’s foothills, Kodai, and surrounding villages, the situation is more severe. A giant tree fell on the road leading to the famous Srinivasa Perumal Temple, obstructing traffic until roadworkers cleared the blockage. Landslides are reported in several areas, with rocks tumbling on mountain roads, making travel hazardous. The roads are especially dangerous in the winding, sharp bends of the mountain paths, where there is a risk of rocks and debris falling onto vehicles, causing further concern for commuters.
In places like Kodai’s lower hill areas (Tandikudi, Pannaikadu, Perumpaarai, and K.C. Patti), the continuous downpour caused slippery conditions, leaving people apprehensive about traveling at night. The authorities are urged to take preventive measures to clear any fallen rocks, particularly in places known for hazardous terrain. Power outages continue to plague several areas, making life difficult for both residents and farmers, with prolonged electrical failures affecting daily chores and agricultural work.
The rain continues to intensify, and Dindigul has already received 141 mm of rain two days ago and another 60 mm yesterday. Areas like Dindigul, Kodai, and several others have registered significant rainfall, including Kamatchipuram (4 mm), Natham (2 mm), Nilakottai (6 mm), and others. With the northeast monsoon showing no signs of letting up, residents and authorities are preparing for more rainfall, while steps are taken to ensure safety and minimize the impact of the weather conditions.
