Shanmugam has urged the municipal authorities to investigate the matter and ensure that only the appropriate EPF deductions are made.

In Erode Municipal Corporation, workers involved in various tasks, including sanitation through self-help groups across 60 wards, are facing allegations of extra deductions while paying their Employees' Provident Fund (EPF). According to the allegations, municipal employees are collecting more than the actual EPF contribution from the workers.

Shanmugam, the State President of the Tamil Nadu Sanitation Workers' Union, stated that EPF contributions should be deducted at 12% of the salary from the sanitation workers. However, employees are reportedly collecting an extra ₹125 to ₹300 per worker. They argue that additional amounts are being charged because the payments are made through an agency.

The allegations highlight that, every three months, workers are facing substantial extra deductions. Shanmugam has urged the municipal authorities to investigate the matter and ensure that only the appropriate EPF deductions are made.
