The state government has shown its continued commitment to agricultural development by investing in modern irrigation systems, which are crucial for maintaining sustainable farming practices.

In a major step towards improving irrigation infrastructure for farmers in Kallakurichi district, the Collector and MLA of Kallakurichi jointly inaugurated a new electric motor at the Manimuktha Dam in Soolangkurichi on Thursday. The motor, installed at a cost of ₹8 lakh, will lift water from the canal connected to the dam and direct it into the Soolangkurichi lake, ensuring a steady water supply for agriculture in the area.

Farmers in the region have long struggled with limited water access for irrigation, particularly during the dry season. With this new motor in place, there is now a reliable system to channel water from the canal into the lake, which will be a boon for the local farming community. The project addresses the demand made by farmers and local representatives to utilize surplus water from the irrigation canal, which would otherwise have gone to waste.

The installation of the electric motor and pipeline has been funded through the Union Public Fund under the initiative aimed at improving irrigation facilities in rural areas. The motor is expected to operate efficiently, ensuring that the irrigation requirements of the agricultural community are met without interruption.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Kallakurichi District Collector Prashanth and local MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan. The event was attended by several senior officials, including DMK unit members Perumal and Durai Murugan, who supported the initiative. Community leaders and local representatives, including Councillor Suseela Pandurangan and Advocate Ranjith, were also present to witness the occasion.

Collector Prashanth spoke about the significance of the project, highlighting that the initiative would directly improve water availability for farming, leading to better crop yields and increased agricultural productivity in the region. He also assured farmers that the government was committed to further enhancing the irrigation infrastructure in the district to meet their needs.

In addition, local village heads, administrative officers, and several farmers participated in the event, expressing their gratitude for the timely intervention that will ease the challenges they face in irrigation. Village leader and Panchayat President Komathi Suresh welcomed the guests and thanked the government for this much-needed development.

The installation of the electric motor is expected to not only improve water access for farmers but also play a crucial role in the upcoming agricultural seasons. By ensuring water is available round the clock, this initiative is expected to increase the efficiency of irrigation practices, reduce water wastage, and help farmers grow crops more effectively.

The new motor will also benefit the Soolangkurichi lake, which serves as a crucial water source for various local farms. As the lake fills up, the surplus water will provide an additional reservoir for nearby agricultural land, helping farmers grow their crops with more consistency and stability.

The state government has shown its continued commitment to agricultural development by investing in modern irrigation systems, which are crucial for maintaining sustainable farming practices. This initiative is also part of a broader effort by the government to promote water conservation and efficient water management in rural areas.

As the motor comes into operation, it is expected to ease the water crisis that has plagued the region for years. With this much-needed infrastructure, local farmers will now be able to plan their crops with greater confidence and certainty.

In the coming months, it is expected that more such irrigation improvements will be made in various parts of the district to further enhance agricultural productivity and support the livelihoods of farmers. This move is seen as a vital step towards addressing long-term agricultural challenges and ensuring that the farming community thrives in Kallakurichi district.
