Recent heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Mandous have caused significant damage to crops in the Rishivandiyam region, where vast agricultural fields were submerged in water. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin assured farmers that relief funds would be provided for the affected crops.
Following this announcement, a comprehensive survey was conducted yesterday to assess the extent of damage. Under the supervision of Agricultural Officer Pushpavalli, a team consisting of Deputy Officer Senthilkumar, Assistant Agricultural Officers Abbas, Velu, Sekar, and Vinodhkumar, along with Technical Managers Chatterjee and Suvaneshwar, carried out the crop damage assessment.
Modern drone technology was utilized to conduct the survey across several villages, including Pasar, Peral, Sathaputhur, and Periyakolliyur. The drone survey revealed extensive damage to crops such as black gram (urad dal), maize, and paddy, which were submerged in water.
Officials stated that once the survey is fully completed, the collected data will be used to allocate appropriate compensation to affected farmers. The advanced use of drone technology not only expedited the process but also ensured accuracy in identifying the most severely impacted areas.
This initiative is part of the government's effort to provide swift and fair relief to farmers, helping them recover from their losses and return to normalcy. Farmers in the region have expressed hope that the timely action by the government will provide much-needed support in overcoming their challenges.
