Thirukovilur, a city in Tamil Nadu that recently gained municipal status, continues to suffer from a lack of necessary infrastructure improvements. Despite its new status, the local administration has failed to address the critical issues plaguing the city, particularly the rampant encroachments along its roads.

The North, South, and Sannathi streets, which are major roads in the area, have been severely impacted by encroachments extending up to 15 feet. This has led to significant traffic congestion, with not only vehicles but pedestrians also facing difficulties navigating through these overcrowded streets.

Sannathi Street, which is home to the renowned Perumal Temple, is a particularly affected area. Historically, it was once a prominent entrance to the city, according to archaeological reports. Now, however, the road is choked with permanent encroachments. These obstructions make it nearly impossible for devotees and tourists to visit the temple without facing severe traffic-related issues.

Further complicating the situation, the local municipality continues to collect parking fees despite the ongoing issues with blocked streets. As a result, residents and visitors are often left in a state of confusion, unsure of where they can park their vehicles or even walk freely.

East and North streets also face similar challenges, with frequent traffic jams causing major inconvenience to the public. Despite repeated attempts by law enforcement to manage the traffic, the encroachments remain unchecked. Street vendors, flower shops, and small businesses have also set up stalls along the road, further contributing to the chaos.

The city's administration, along with the highways department, claims that efforts have been made to clear these encroachments, but permanent measures have yet to be implemented. Local authorities have even reported instances of boundary marking by surveyors, but the problem persists. Meanwhile, the sub-collector and the local administration seem unaware of the gravity of the situation.

To resolve this ongoing traffic crisis, experts suggest that the local authorities, including the revenue department, highways department, police, and the municipality, must work together to implement strict actions against permanent encroachments. Removing these obstructions will be crucial in ensuring smooth traffic flow and preventing further deterioration of the city's infrastructure.

Furthermore, the municipality should take steps to regulate businesses operating along the streets, offering them designated areas or alternative spaces to run their operations without encroaching on public property. Only then can the city address the traffic challenges it faces and offer a more organized, safer environment for its residents and visitors.

The issue has become a serious concern for residents, as the city's lack of proper planning and action continues to frustrate its inhabitants. With the ongoing support of local political leaders, authorities must make immediate changes to ensure the city's development in a manner that benefits the general public.

Despite its new status, the local administration has failed to address the critical issues plaguing the city, particularly the rampant encroachments along its roads.
