The amount of rainfall recorded is 12% higher than the usual rainfall expected during the monsoon season.

Kanchipuram district has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall for the past two days, resulting in the overflow of 41 reservoirs in a single day. The unexpected volume of water has caused severe flooding in many residential areas. The amount of rainfall recorded is 12% higher than the usual rainfall expected during the monsoon season.

Previously, 71 reservoirs were already at full capacity, and with 41 more reservoirs overflowing, the water resources department has expressed concern. According to weather forecasts, a low-pressure system is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, which could lead to further rainfall and possible flooding.

The overflow from several lakes, including Adanur, Orathur, and Somangalam, has led to flooding in areas like Varadarajapuram, a low-lying region. Several homes in these areas have been surrounded by floodwaters. Additionally, the water from various reservoirs in Sriperumbudur region has increased the flow in the Adaiyar canal, exacerbating the flooding situation.

Officials are actively monitoring the situation and taking measures to prevent further damage. Local authorities have assured that steps are being taken to assist affected residents, and more rain is expected to continue in the coming days.
