The 37th death anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.) was observed with great reverence in Kanchipuram. The event, organized near the Muthiyalpet Panchayat office, was attended by prominent figures from the O. Panneerselvam faction of the AIADMK.
The function began with R.V. Ranjith Kumar, the District Secretary of the O. Panneerselvam faction, leading the floral tributes to M.G.R.'s portrait. The portrait was beautifully adorned with flowers, and a heartfelt homage was paid to the iconic leader who made significant contributions to the state's welfare and development during his tenure as Chief Minister.
After the tribute, an annadhanam (community meal) was provided to over 1,000 people, symbolizing M.G.R.'s enduring legacy of social welfare. Annadhanam has been a tradition to celebrate his memory, as M.G.R. was known for his focus on welfare schemes, especially for the poor and marginalized sections of society.
The ceremony was marked by a significant presence of volunteers and officials from the O. Panneerselvam faction’s relief team, who played a pivotal role in organizing the event. The volunteers ensured smooth distribution of food and facilitated the smooth conduct of the function, which witnessed a gathering of local residents, political supporters, and followers of M.G.R.'s ideology.
In his speech, R.V. Ranjith Kumar praised M.G.R.'s vision for Tamil Nadu, highlighting his efforts to uplift the underprivileged and ensure welfare measures such as the introduction of subsidized food schemes, affordable healthcare, and affordable housing for the poor. His leadership continues to inspire people, and his legacy is remembered not just by party members but also by countless citizens who benefited from his governance.
The event also drew attention to M.G.R.'s lasting impact on the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, where he remains a figure of immense respect and adoration. Over the years, several political leaders, including O. Panneerselvam, have carried forward his vision through various social welfare programs.
M.G.R.'s passing in 1987 left a void in Tamil Nadu politics, but his contributions continue to echo in the hearts of his supporters. His unique leadership style and compassionate approach to governance set him apart as a leader of the people. The 37th death anniversary marked a moment of reflection on his transformative impact on Tamil Nadu and its people.
