The district administration is closely monitoring the water levels and making efforts to manage the inflow efficiently, ensuring that local agriculture benefits from the improved water availability.

Uttiramerur:
Uttiramerur, a significant region in Kanchipuram district, houses 92 tanks under the control of the Public Works Department and 130 tanks under local administration, totaling 222 tanks. During the southwest monsoon in July and August, a considerable amount of water was collected in these tanks.

However, the expected influx of water from the northeast monsoon did not occur as anticipated over the past two months. But, last week's heavy rains significantly increased the water flow into the tanks.

As of now, 24 tanks under the Public Works Department are completely filled, and water is flowing out through overflow channels. Similarly, 16 tanks under the local administration, including Agaramthulai, Guruvaadi, and Arasaana Mangalam, are also filled to capacity. Additionally, 114 tanks have around 70% of their capacity filled, while 16 tanks have less than 70% water retention.

Uttiramerur’s P.D.O., Padmavathi, reported that tanks in areas like Salavakkam, Thirupulivanam, and Alisur had filled up rapidly. Most of the remaining tanks have also reached around 70% of their capacity. Authorities expect that with continued water inflows, the majority of these tanks will be fully filled in the coming days.
