The Valluvur Statue, located in Kanyakumari, has stood as a symbol of Tamil pride for the past 25 years. The statue, which stands 95 feet tall and rests on a pedestal of 13 layers, was constructed under the leadership of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The construction of the statue itself was no small feat. Built on a small rock outcrop in the middle of the sea, engineers faced numerous challenges, including limited technological resources and transportation hurdles. Despite these obstacles, the statue was completed in 1999, with the total cost estimated at ₹6.14 crore.

In 2004, the statue withstood the devastating tsunami, a testament to the strength and resilience of its construction, which was made using 3,681 black stones. Now, after over two decades, the statue continues to stand tall, drawing millions of visitors each year. However, access to the statue has been limited, with only boat transport to the nearby Vivekananda Rock.

To improve accessibility and provide a more seamless visitor experience, Chief Minister Stalin has launched the construction of a glass bridge connecting the Vivekananda Rock to the Valluvur Statue. This bridge will allow visitors to walk directly from the Vivekananda Rock to the statue, bypassing the need for boat transportation. The construction of the bridge is nearing completion, and CM Stalin is expected to inaugurate it soon.

This addition will not only enhance the tourist experience but will also add a modern touch to the historical landmark, ensuring that visitors can appreciate the grandeur of the Valluvur Statue and its surroundings in a unique way. The glass bridge, which is expected to become a major attraction in its own right, will symbolize the fusion of tradition and modernity in Tamil Nadu's tourism infrastructure.
