The 10th International Balloon Festival was successfully held at the Kaalaiyanur Azhvuthal Arena near Alanganallur in Madurai district. Teams from 10 countries, including Germany, England, and several others, participated in the festival. This festival is widely recognized for its balloon flying art, along with the other festivities associated with it, leaving a lasting impression on people.
This year's festival experienced a delayed start due to high air pressure, which caused the air circulation to intensify, making it difficult for the balloons to take flight. As a result, some of the giant balloons only flew a short distance. However, the festival still showcased remarkable elements, and the balloons continued to generate great excitement and curiosity.
The festival is organized every year by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation in conjunction with the Pongal festival. Notable locations where the festival is held include Chennai, Coimbatore, and Pollachi. The events conducted on beaches and open fields provided an enjoyable experience for both participants and spectators.
Hot air balloons brought from abroad added a unique charm to the festival. Moreover, this event contributes to the growth of tourism in Tamil Nadu, boosting its global tourism presence and enhancing the state's prominence.
