On January 8, 2025, during a press conference in Vadalur, Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman allegedly made derogatory remarks about Periyar, the revered social reformer. The comments sparked outrage among DMK leaders across Tamil Nadu. Following this, a formal complaint was filed by the DMK legal team at the Usilampatti police station in Madurai district.
The complaint condemns Seeman for insulting Periyar, who is widely regarded as the father of the Dravidian movement. The complaint also highlights the contributions of several key figures in Tamil Nadu's political history, such as Periyar, E. V. Ramasamy, former Chief Ministers M. G. Ramachandran, J. Jayalalithaa, and current Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, for their role in shaping the state's political and social landscape.
In the complaint, the DMK legal team demands that appropriate action be taken against Seeman for his comments, and stresses the importance of respecting Tamil Nadu's political and social icons. Additionally, they announced plans for further protests, urging the public to stand in solidarity against what they term as offensive remarks aimed at undermining the values of equality and justice that these leaders stood for. The DMK has issued a strong warning to Seeman, with a commitment to escalate their efforts if no action is taken.
