A consultation meeting was held by the Madurai Municipal Corporation's Western Zone to address the difficulties faced by local people, devotees, and wedding parties during the festival and auspicious days at the Tirupparangunram Subramaniyaswami Temple. The meeting was attended by Zone Head Swetha, Assistant Police Commissioners Gurusamy, Rajendran, Inspectors Panjavarnam, Muruganandam, Temple Supervisor Ranjani, members of the AIADMK and DMK parties Ramesh, Murugan, Vimal, Krishnapandiyan, Arumugam, small business owners, and wedding hall administrators.
During the meeting, attendees highlighted that road closures during the festival and auspicious days caused difficulties for local people trying to access hospitals near the temple. People living on Sanathi, Melaratha Street, Keelaratha Street, and Periaratha Street were not allowed to drive their two-wheelers. Additionally, it was pointed out that while several facilities are provided for out-of-town devotees, local people are inconvenienced.
In Tirupparangunram, where there are many wedding halls, wedding parties face great difficulty when they are not allowed to drive their vehicles into the town on auspicious days. To address these issues, suggestions were made to issue identification cards to residents living around the temple to allow them to access their two-wheelers.
Considering their opinions, it was recommended that the police should plan vehicle management, and the government land allotted on Avaniyapuram Road should be used as a parking area for vehicles.
The main goal is to ensure that the people living near Tirupparangunram have convenient access without inconvenience. It was unanimously agreed that these recommendations should be implemented for the benefit of temple visitors, wedding parties, and local people.
Police Assistant Commissioner Gurusamy and Zone Head Swetha assured that they would consult with officials regarding all these requests and take necessary actions to implement them.
