The village of Oorkulathanpatti in Tirupathur witnessed an exciting Manjuvirattu event on the third Friday of Margazhi, where over 200 bulls participated. The event was held as part of the annual festival at the Muniyaya Temple, a tradition during the Margazhi month. The proceedings began at 10:30 AM when the villagers completed their temple rituals and proceeded in a procession to the arena for the bull-taming event.
The Manjuvirattu lasted for over three hours, with participants attempting to catch the bulls that were released from the enclosure. As the event unfolded, more than 200 bulls participated, and both the bull-catchers and bull-owners were awarded prizes for their efforts. In addition, several hundred cattle from nearby areas were released in the morning for the event.
However, the event was not without incidents. Over 20 people were injured while attempting to catch the bulls, and ten individuals sustained significant injuries. They were admitted to the government hospitals in Tirupathur and Sivagangai for treatment.
Due to the event being conducted without proper permission, the police from Kandavaraianpatti are currently investigating the matter to ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols. Despite the injuries, the event remains a key cultural activity in the region, with villagers participating in large numbers.
