Due to the inadequate drainage, rainwater stagnates in various parts of the market, making it difficult for people to walk and for vendors to carry out business during the rainy season.

The Pallathur weekly market, which serves as a key hub for local trade, is grappling with several issues, primarily due to the lack of proper infrastructure. One of the most pressing concerns is the absence of a proper drainage system, which has been causing significant discomfort for both the vendors and the public. Due to the inadequate drainage, rainwater stagnates in various parts of the market, making it difficult for people to walk and for vendors to carry out business during the rainy season.

Rajendran, a vendor who has been selling at the market regularly, expressed his frustrations with the situation. He pointed out that the newly constructed market building was meant to improve the conditions for both traders and customers. However, the lack of proper planning, particularly in terms of water drainage, has led to difficulties that defeat the purpose of the new structure. During the monsoon, the heavy rain exacerbates the problem, and vendors struggle to set up their stalls as the market area becomes flooded. He stressed the need for proper drainage channels to allow rainwater to flow out of the market efficiently, as well as the addition of more shops to accommodate the growing number of traders.

Shanti, the local Panchayat President, also acknowledged the issue, admitting that the market's new building was constructed without adequate planning for the drainage system. She confirmed that several complaints have been raised by vendors regarding the water stagnation caused by the lack of proper outlets for rainwater. In response, she mentioned that a detailed report has been submitted to address the issue and to improve the overall conditions of the market. The report includes plans for implementing a better drainage system and expanding the number of shops to meet the demands of vendors.

The authorities have assured that swift action will be taken to resolve these issues. The aim is to ensure that the market remains functional and efficient, benefiting both the vendors and the public. By addressing these infrastructure challenges, they hope to make the market a more conducive environment for business and easier for people to navigate, especially during the rainy season.
