The electrification work on the Madurai–Bodi broad gauge railway track has been completed, and a night-time trial run of the train at 110 km/h was conducted last Thursday. This electrification project has paved the way for faster and more efficient travel between Madurai and Bodi, one of India’s key railway routes. The trial run is considered a significant step toward setting up a railway track that can operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

The railway track has been converted to a 25,000-volt electrical system, and a trial run at a speed of 120 km/h was conducted four months ago. During the latest trial, a train traveling at 110 km/h with three carriages reached Bodi Railway Station in one hour and 15 minutes, departing from Madurai at 8:50 PM and arriving at 10:05 PM.

Later, another trial at 90 km/h was conducted, with the train leaving Madurai at 11:00 PM. The night-time trial focused on testing the elevated sections of the track, key curves, and the electrical systems at railway stations, ensuring that all components were functioning correctly. This trial helped verify that the electrified track was free of any obstructions.

This well-regulated and smooth operation of the train is set to offer passengers a faster and safer travel experience. Once the electrification project is fully completed, the track will be capable of running even faster, more efficient trains.
