Farmers growing maize have been instructed by the Department of Agriculture to secure crop insurance by December 30, 2023, for the 2023-24 season. In the district, maize has been cultivated over 5,790 hectares, which is notable. This year, the area under maize cultivation has increased, and farmers are expected to earn good profits.

The primary reason crop insurance is crucial for farmers is the threat posed by natural calamities and wildlife attacks. These issues, including storms, hail, and wild animal damage, can destroy crops, making it essential to safeguard them through crop insurance. Therefore, the Department of Agriculture has emphasized that farmers must insure their crops by the specified date to ensure a secure future for their crops.

Farmers are required to pay a premium of ₹435 per acre to obtain crop insurance. This premium is considered a safeguard to protect the income that farmers generate from their crops. So far, crop insurance has been provided for 150.53 acres of maize in the district.

Crop insurance ensures that farmers will receive relief in case of future emergencies. In particular, in the event of natural disasters, wildlife attacks, or other extreme situations, having insurance in place helps maintain their income without significant losses.

Thus, it is imperative that farmers insure their crops and effectively manage the risks associated with this season's crops.

These issues, including storms, hail, and wild animal damage, can destroy crops, making it essential to safeguard them through crop insurance.
